Catharsis
Incarcaration
In Brazil, what many of my foreign friends can't imagine is a main feature of our Metal scene: the musical diversity from each region. Yes, because if you hear a band from South, another from the central region and a third one from the North, all of them from the same Metal style, you'll get different insights. This is a feature that arises due the cultural contrasts that we, Brazilian people, have. I am truly impressed by "Catharsis", first album from the trio INCARCERATION, from Manaus (on Amazonas, a region inside the Rain Forest). It's really different. It's that old and good way of playing traditional Death Metal, with roots in the beginning of the 90s. It's brutal and aggressive, fast and truly brutal, but with a strong musical personality that makes their musical work really good. Of course it's nothing new, something that wasn't done before, but their work has its own value. Their musical arrangements are truly very good, worked in a different way, with some very good technical moments. "Catharsis" shows a very good sound quality, balancing in a good way the needed weight and aggressiveness with the necessary sound clarity that enables us all to feel and really understand their musical efforts. The artwork, simple and straight, fits with their musical style. Their songs are really good, making our ears turn deaf for some minutes. But it's worth it, without any doubt. The best songs from "Catharsis": the brutal guitars shown on "Evoking the Possession", the good technical parts of bass guitar and drums in some moments from "Devouring Darkness", the duet of musical violence of "Infernal Suffering" and "Chaos and Blasphemy" (both with very good work on vocals, that uses a high pitch for of harsh singing, not the common guttural form), the slow parts of "Neverending Agony" (where the drummer shows an excellent and technical work) and "Into the Blackest Void" (these very good and atmospheric slow guitar parts are really charming). But on "Purification" and on "Resignation", we have melodic and introspective instrumentals with acoustic guitar. The band is really excellent, but I believe that they can use some entire slow songs as well, because the slow parts I named above are really amazing. But for now, "Catharsis" is a really good work that deserves applauses.
