Son of Juno

Stoner Rock in a high level is what is heard on this album.
September 19, 2024

There’s a kind of ‘revival wave’ for Stoner Rock raging in the past few years. Many and many new bands are working in such trench, releasing new albums, and it’s becoming difficult to hear everyone of them, and the ears can become saturate of hearing the same genre, and a mistake can happen (the most usual: to leave a very good band aside because one can’t stand that same form of music anymore). And unfortunately, releases as “Son of Juno”, of the Swedish quartet HUANASTONE, can pass without being noticed.

The album was recorded at Tambourine Studios (Erik Sunding) and Studio Möllan (where it was mixed as well), and mastered at Greenfog Studio. The idea was to have a organic and simple sonority that could depict the band’s live feeling. And it’s what one can expect of the album’s sonority: definition on a very good level, but sounding simple. As told above, the quartet works on a Stoner Rock way, and pay attention: it’s written ‘Rock’, not ‘Metal’, so it means that the band has a more accessible appeal on its songs, and a raw and with an amazing energy based on groove, but as it sounds crude as acts of the 60s and 70s, such level of organic distortion can elude the senses. Anyway, if you’re not worried about genres’ labels, this album will have a strong appeal for you.

There are 7 very good songs on the album, and for sure fans of Alternative Rock tendencies, Grunge and Stoner Rock ways will fall in love as songs as “...And Then Came the Sun” (a fine mix between Southern Rock, Stoner Rock and Psychedelic Rock influences based on very good guitar parts), “Son of Juno” (full of deeper and melancholic parts and good vocals), “Love in Black Tar”, “Black Rain”, “Gaea” (deeper and noir elements can be heard contrasting with charming melodies), “If I Had a Head” and “Red Dunes” (fine rhythms guided by bass guitar and drums) play. But some of them could be shorter for a better reach for a broader public.

Anyway, “Son of Juno” is a very good work and projects HUANASTONE to a good future in the scene.
