Doom death metal was born on the beginning of the 90s. Bands like PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE and ANATHEMA, due their mix of the heavy weight of slower pace tempos and depressive musical atmospheres of doom metal bands like CANDLEMASS, TROUBLE, SAINT VITUS, and WITCHFINDER GENERAL with the brutality of death metal, especially when we are dealing with extreme grunts on vocals. Albums like "Gothic", "Serenades", and "As The Flower Withers" and some others are sources of inspiration for many bands. And these bands are doing something more heavier and slower than before, what we are used to call funeral doom death metal. And on this style, are many good names, as the Brazilian HELLLIGHT and now, with Swedish trio HEAVYDEATH, coming with their first album, "Eternal Sleepwalker", after many Demos and EPs.

With musicians with passages with names as LORD BELIAL, SWORDMASTER, KATATONIA and SACRAMENTUM, to name just a few, it's not a mere coincidence of the quality of the music we hear: it's the best way that funeral doom death metal could sound, still with the low and aggressive grunts (but some agonizing whispers appears in some moments, and some shrieked ones too), excellent guitar works (it's not easy as many can think to play this way and to keep our attention on their music), very good and technical presence of the bass guitar, what makes drums follow in the same trend, with very good work. Explaining in few words: their music is slow as a funeral, bitter as hell, but heavy and abrasive, with very good personality.

The sound quality is good, with a clear and bitter sound flowing from the speakers. But be careful: it's extremely abrasive and heavy, so for some non-used Metallians, it can cause many nightmares at night.

It's a funeral doom death metal album, so expect long songs (the greater part of them are far above 6 minutes), but the better funeral songs are "Ascending" and its very good vocal work, the abrasive "Road To The Fire" (with some guitar parts that really seemed to be tuned and played by Tony Iommi himself in his earlier and more heavier era, and with some technical parts from bass guitar), the shortest song "Eat the Sun" (a bit above 4 minutes, but with some aggressive riffs and very good drums), and the torment of sleep called "Heavy As Death".

A fine work, indeed.
