1991.Boodstained
Gory Blister
Italy is a country where Metal has a two-faced feature: the side of melodic Metal genres, and the one with extreme sonorities. On both, you can find excellent bands, having the so called Italian Metal DNA. On the work of the veteran GORY BLISTER, this is clear. On single listening to their latest release, the album "1991.Bloodstained", and this idea becomes clear. Outrageous, brutal and really nasty, the quartet plays into a Technical Death Metal tendency, but an Old School outfit. But what could you expect from a band with 27 years of experience over their shoulders? But it's impressive that some melodies can be found on their work sometimes (hear some guitar parts of the song "1991.Bloodstained", and you'll understand what I mean). It's truly good, and different from what we are used to hear in this genre of Death Metal.
On the sound quality, there's a really interesting feature: although they prefer to use something crude and aggressive, the overall aesthetics used seems to be done to be something clear and comprehensible to our ears. It really sounds aggressive as a Death Meta fan like, but clear as well. Maybe it's a consequence of their contact and the artistic consults that Jon Zazula (yes, the same guy who showed METALLICA to the world) gave them. Be prepared, because "1991.Bloodstained" is a savage piece of aggressive Metal.
Songs as the Death/Thrash blood vomit "Trails of Lies" (fine guitars on the riffs and solos), the musical massacre imposed by "1991.Bloodstained" (where, as I wrote above, some melodies can be heard), the harsh and bitter essence that is spilled from "Anthropocene" (a very good technical and heavy work from bass guitar and drums can be heard), the hooking Thrash Metal parts of "No Shadow", the insane instrumental technique used on "My Insanity" (with some Jazz noir parts) and the heavy slow rhythm of "The Last Call" are the album's finest moments. But you must hear their caustic version for METALLICA's "Damage Inc", that is excellent (due this different insight used on the grunted vocals).
"1991.Bloodstained" is really a very good album. Listen to it and be brutalized!
