There are moments when I have a great question in mind: why in the blazes bands with no personality have support from labels, and some talented ones doesn't? Yes, because some bands are so good to have to battle using only their own personal efforts into the underground scene. That's the case from UK quintet GEHTIKA, as their first album, "A Monster In Mourning", can show.
Imagine a mix between Death and Black Metal, using a very good technical approach, a melodic insight, some great guitar riffs and solos, fine vocals with a great range of tunes, and a fine bass and drums work on rhythmic session? And put then great doses of personality. Aggressive, technical, modern, with very good taste, and funny a lot. It's the band that many are looking for, I guess. The production is great, for the sound quality that they got is pretty good. All musical instruments and arrangements are clear to our ears, but the sound is heavy and abrasive. So we can have the best that their musical work offers without complaints.
The album's nine songs ("Apollyon" is just an instrumental intro, and "Reckoning" is an interlude done with keyboards and clean guitars) are really fine, but some great moments appear, and their best shots are the abrasive and savage "One Night: Seven Sins" (great work done by guitars on this song rich in rhythmic changes), the thundering and technical "Stack The Pyres" (some very polite and complex riffs can be heard here, along with a fine work done by bass and drums), "The Massaquerade" and it's great and abrasive modern approach, and the creative "A Halo Of Crows".
Fine album, so, go and get it as soon as possible!
