Formless Oedon - Streams of Rot album cover

To those experienced fans that heard certain musical genres throughout the years (so don't try to listen to a specific genre as much as you can for days or months to gain experience, because it will only saturates your mind without need) can perceive that there are subjective (and some clear) elements on the genre when you're dealing with bands from different countries. As an example: USA Death Metal isn't like Swedish Death Metal, because both scenes have different histories and evolutions (and even influences). And until this very moment, Philippines' Death Metal acts have three different forms: or they have a more traditional insight on the genre (that is a combination of USA and European Schools of the genre), or they have a tendency into Brutal Death Metal, or even a fusion between these two sides. And the quartet FORMLESS OEDON is on the third way, as shown on "Streams of Rot".

As written above, the quartet combines influences of traditional Death Metal (in a similar way to MORBID ANGEL and MASSACRE with some technical moments like old PESTILENCE, as heard on "Voidspawn...") with traces of Brutal Death Metal (something inherited of CANNIBAL CORPSE's early works). But don't get the wrong idea: their musical work is pretty good and personal, with very good Death Metal hooks spread throughout the songs of the album, and always using good taste to create arrangements for their songs. But prepare your ears, because it's ferocious and brutal! Andrei Alemania (the quartet's drummer) is the one who did the mixing and mastering, and the idea depicted by the result is: the band wanted something distorted and raw in the Old School Death Metal ways, something that could show resemblances with what was conceived on Morrisound Studios and Sunlight Studios in the 90s. But they did something that can be understood without problems as well, so be prepared for the massacre.

There are 7 songs on "Streams of Rot", and the Death Metal fans that like something more traditional love them all. But for the first time on their music, the best ones for it are "Heavenly Abomination" (an abrasive song based on contrasts between slower and faster tempos with a brutal work of bass guitar and drums on the filthy and bitter rhythms), "Voidspawn..." (this one, as said before, shows a catchy technical set of arrangements, but without leaving traditional Death Metal paths, with very good grunts, using some low grunts in a form that guards resemblances with Chuck Schuldiner's tunes), "Calcine Purification" (this one shows resemblances with works of BOLT THROWER early days, especially during the noisy guitar riffs and arrangements), and "Streams of Rot". But again: traditional Death Metal fans will have no difficulties to listen to and love all the quartet's songs.

"Streams of Rot" is the first offering created by the quartet, and there are signs that they're evolving (they're a young act, only four years old since its formation). Fans can put high hopes on FORMLESS OEDON.
