Fleshkiller - Awaken album cover

Since the coming of the first Black Metal bands in the beginning of the 90s, Norway became a great and fertile scene for Metal bands. Even today, new and good names appear in those lands, always bearing extremely good works. The Norwegian Metal way is a trademark, and you'll find the same DNA on the work of FLESHKILLER. Being a band with members that played on bands as TRISTANIA, MAUGRIM, SHINING and ANTESTOR, it's not a mere coincidence that "Awaken" (their first album) is so good.

They play a modern and technical form of Technical Death Metal, with some abrasive bits of Groove Metal on some moments. It's truly brutal and aggressive, but with a modern and different aesthetics from many bands of the genre, some subjective melodies and Jazz influences. It's not something new in terms of Metal, but it's different, has a great amount of catchy energy and it's truly good.

The band's guitarist/vocalist Ole Børud produced "Awaken", and it was Jack C. Daniels and mastered by Alan Douches, and their work guarantee a good sound quality with a good balance between clearness, weight and aggressiveness. But it has that essential touch of instrumental rawness that comes from the instrumental tunes, and from them comes the Death Metal scent of the band. The somber and sinister artwork is another creation is another great work created by the hands of Marcelo Vasco, the Brazilian designer that worked for names as SLAYER, BORKNAGAR, KREATOR and others.

The band is musically creative, and as experience takes its toll on their work, they can be a great name for the future, as their songs are showing that their talent can be better expressed. But by now, these ten songs are very good, as the brutal and progressive "Parallel Kingdom" (very good melodies on solos, and fine clean vocals), the grasping brutality of "Salt of the Earth" (very good harsh vocals with that shrieked vocals that are different from tradition guttural approach, along with fine clean progressive parts), the broken tempos and excellent rhythmic work heard on "Secret Chambers" and on "Awaken", the traditional Death Metal approach on some parts of "Evil Eclipse" and "Warfare", and the progressive melodies of "Window of Time" is proof that these guys are really great.

FLESHKILLER is a very good new name, indeed.
