From the end comes a new beginning, it's a clear idea that comes from metaphysical beliefs that we all knew since our childhood. And of course it's present in many aspects from Nature and even in our lives. And even on Metal it's a truth. In the case of FILLI ELIAE, a trio coming from my beloved Italy, that arise from the ashes of two bands from there: ENSLAVED and MAYHEM, but please, do not confuse yourselves, dear nephews and nieces. And now, proving they have Metal in their veins, the trio releases their first album, "Qui Nobis Maledictum Velit".

With all lyrics in Latin, the band does a mix between Black Metal aspects and Doom Metal atmospheres. Ok, Ol' Big Daddy here knows very well that this model was used time and time again since the 90's, but the guys use a non orthodox way of playing, creating a melancholic and darkened feeling with a violent and impacting music. This could resume a great part of what they do.

The sound quality is a bit harsh and dry, but my personal belief is that the band wanted to do things this way by now, to make a more darkened album, creating a profound sense of melancholy in their songs. But don't get the wrong idea: the tunes really could be better, but the whole quality is not bad. You can hear all instruments clearly and in their due places on their songs.

They got a great potential to create very good and heavy songs, with the best ones being the slow and bitter "Et Umbra Sum" (their riffs are excellent, for the guitarist have a more creative way of playing, staying away from a virtuous approach to playing according with the music demands), "Vita Finis Adest" (a more hooking song, with a Black Metal approach in not so fast tempos, along with great vocal duties seeming a little Atilla Csihar, from MAYHEM, along with excellent guitars), the extremely good instrumental "Volgus Sine Nomine" (again a very good work from guitars on the riffs, along with great drums and bass playing). But one thing must be said: the album is good as a whole, so every song has its value.
