Fatuous Rump - I Am at Your Disposal album cover

Once again: Brutal Death Metal is the subgenre of Metal that really is a matter of loving it or hating it, without a midterm. Even to Death Metal fans the genre can sound hard to be swallowed, because some bands really exaggerate in the dose of brutality. Of course that there are tons of good bands on the genre, some that don't need a mention, and others that can become relevant if they try to improve things. And the quartet FATUOUS RUMP that hails from Taiwan has potential, but need to improve things, because it is what is depicted by "I Am at Your Disposal". Love it or hate it, the quartet is on a form of Brutal Death Metal that has all the clichés of the genre (piggish screams contrasting with extreme low grunts, slow tempos, low tuned chords, a good technical level, and others), and with that abrasive set of ambiences, the same elements stated by SUFFOCATION, DYING FETUS, CANNIBAL CORPSE and MORBID ANGEL on the past.

Of course that the band shows tons of gallows humor in its music, but the entanglement between their musical ideas (that are very good) and the clichés of the genre is in a point that pushes their efforts back. It's not bad at all (besides the songs sound one like other after the second hearing), but could be better. The sonority of "I Am at Your Disposal" is what one can expect of a Brutal Death Metal album: defined and abrasive, but always in a way that allows the fans to understand what's being expressed. But some instrumental tunes could be better shaped, especially the snare drum.

Brutal Death Metal addicted fans will love the album and enjoy songs as "The Toilet is the Person" (a slow song with some screams that are weird, but with a good and personal approach on the grunts), "You Melt the Plastic in My Underwear" (another slow song, but here with better shaped tempos and rhythmic shifts created by bass guitar and drums), "Blood is Really Warm with a Lot of Screaming" (very good guitar riffs and arrangements), "Sometimes Bad Babies Go in Timeout" (the vocals seems hilarious sometimes, but the work shown by the instruments is good, and some good faster parts appears), and "No, Can You Lick Them for Me". But if the idea was to reach a broader set of fans, it can't be possible without some maturing.

It's obvious that FATUOUS RUMP isn't a bad band and "I Am at Your Disposal" isn't a total loss, but if the band sharpens their musical efforts a bit more, doors will be opened to their music.
