All who know me for a long time have in mind that I advocate a personal vision about Power Metal: it wasn't born in Germany with HELLOWEEN, as many think. The term was born in the USA to name that generation from the earlier part of the 80's, names as OMEN, RUTHLESS, LIZZY BORDEN, and many others that made the fusion between the heavy musical weight from bands from NWOBHM with the fine melodies and technique from USA Metal School. Obviously, as the term "Power Metal" wasn't in use in 1987, someone pick it up and started the mess. But when you hear "Fall Before the Dawn", from UK based quintet FARSEER, you'll have a good idea of what USA Power Metal is about.

Obviously you'll hear some melodies that can remind you of modern Power Metal bands, but the whole outfit will take you back to the USA Metal scene from the 80's, when names as those I wrote above appeared and ravaged the North American lands with their music. But there are many personal ways to play their music, so we can say that they have an identity pulsing with energy and aggressiveness on their songs. And let me tell you: how good they sound to our ears. The sound quality created for "Fall Before the Dawn" could be better, for their music really deserves something a bit more clear, but it's very good. You can hear and understand what they are playing with no problems, and it sounds heavy and a ton of iron. The "but" I must state is about some instrumental tunes, that are a bit rawer than the needed. But the rest is really very good.

Be prepared, for they know how to play extremely heavy (a complain of many fans about German Power Metal format sometimes), and songs like "Luck of the Joker" (this one has some elements from Power Metal you all know on melodies, but it can deceive you; but this song is truly lovely, with fine aggressive guitars), the excellent rhythmical diversity that exists on "Way of the World" (that shows a very good work from bass guitar and drums), the fine keyboards' melodic interventions on the brutal weight of "Drag Down the Sinners" (very good vocals are presented here), the heavy load of emotion that permeates "Blindeye", the brutal melodic grasp of "To Play the Game" and from "Fall Before the Dawn" will hook you where you stand.

It's their first album, so we can hope for a great future from them. Fight and get there, FARSEER!
