Remembrance - The Early Days (Reissue)
Emergency Gate
If someday Metal goes through disturbed and dangerous times, you can bet that the salvation will come from Germany for sure, for since the 70's, the country gives birth to a lot of marvelous names we all know very well, and now, it's time for EMERGENCY GATE shows it work, with the reissue of their EP "Remembrance - The Early Days".
They follow the path of bands like SOILWORK and early DARK TRANQUILLITY, the so called Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal, but with some inspires arrangements from their own, giving a strong breath of life into their songs. And it's not an easy thing to do nowadays, in a world full of clones from the 80's and from some Power Metal names. No, these Germans know what to do.
Very good vocals, going from smooth to harsh tunes with no trouble (with not some guttural vocals), excellent guitar work (both in riffs and solos), bass and drums doing a cohesive and heavy rhythmic basis (without losing a good technique approach), and good keyboards. And there are plenty of slower and more introspective moments. A fine production, making all instruments sound like a unit, weighting heavy as Hell, and very clear. The artwork is the very same from the earlier release, so, it's beautiful.
No, none of the nine tracks is really expendable, none. Even with me telling the highlights, it will be a total injustice with them. The heavy and elegant "Flawless Victory", the wonderful "Searching for an Angel" (with some clean and more beautiful moments, with vocals showing an excellent work), with the very same occurring in "Silent Death" (see the guitars working very well, as the keyboards are in good form) and "Lipstick", the more sentimental "Forest of the Lost" (almost a ballad, when heavy riffs and a well worked bass/drums basis appear), and the ballad "Closing My Eyes", which is wonderful and shows a daring band, and the live tracks "Darkside of the Sun" and "Gold and Glass" shows that this sextet is not a band from studio. But they dared a lot recording a Dance floor cover from the 90's, "What is Love", a great success from HADDAWAY, having Haddaway himself singing with them. And believe me: it's fantastic.
I know that some more radical fans will say that I know nothing about Metal, but be sure: if you're not a stupid fundamentalist, this band is for you.
