Electric Boys - Grand Explosivos album cover

Hard Rock and its expressions are essentially genres that belong to the 70s and 80s, because their inner musical core is something organic, something that seemed to be lost in the last 15-20 years, as long bands learned to use modern technologies on recordings (and as a consequence, some of them sounds a bit 'mechanic' sometimes). But as some bands are rediscovering what was lying on the sands of time and breathing new life on such genres, very good stuff is being released today on Hard Rock. And one of the finest surprises is the Swedish veteran quartet ELECTRIC BOYS, as stated by "Grand Explosivos", their latest release. This is their 8th studio full-length, and they're on the road since 1987, so their music clearly depicts their musical experience: a crude and massive form of Hard Rock full of influences inherited of 70s Groove Rock and 60s Pop Rock.

It can be said that their music is unique, as it was lapidated by time and hardships (no one lasts such long time without some scars, you know), full of energy and with many melodic hooks, but always with energy, pulsing with life and organic distortion, something that's really good to be heard and enjoyed at its fullest. "Grand Explosivos" was recorded at Palma Music Studios, but what one could expect of a band with such experience and background? The obvious answer: something organic and handmade, as they just entered the studio, set their gears and recorded things on the most 'live form' possible, but taking advantage of modern techs to improve things, and it means something that can be understood, but bearing that 'crude' sensation during all the songs. In simple words: it's was their music needs. And the artwork signed by Charlie Granberg (a street artist that did works for KATATONIA, and that directed videos for MY DYING BRIDE and KATATONIA as well) is excellent, fitting on what the band musically expresses.

On the album there are 11 excellent songs that'll satisfy fans of the genre, and even the open-minded fans of music. But for a first ride on "Grand Explosivos", "When Life Treats You Funky" (a massive and rough Hard Rock song plenty of bluesy organic energy, and based on a 'zeppelinean' work of bass guitar and drums), "Better Safe Than Sober" (another song plenty of Groove/Funk elements, with very good vocals and a charming chorus), "I've Got a Feelin'" (a more accessible moment of the album, with catchy melodies created by the guitars and with great backing vocals), "Domestic Blitz" (another greasy and groundbreaking song, heavy and melodic at the same time and with many hooks), "Missed Her by a Minute" (this one shows some 70s AOR elements, or in other words, the musical accessibility is on a high level, without compromising the band's musical essence), "Cozmic Jagger" (this one is that 'down-to-Earth' basic Hard Rock song, full of groove and Funk elements one more, but's with charming melodic hooks), and "The Great Believer" is the perfect set.

It can be said that "Grand Explosivos" is the expression of an experienced band that still has balls to make good music, and that dares a lot. So enjoy what ELECTRIC BOYS is offering, and you won't regret it!
