In Carne Persona
Duel
I remember speaking some time ago about how bands can step out of the models that people created. They're not solid, so anyone can dare to do things in the way needed. And there are guys that dare to have compromise only with their personal creativeness, and not with musical models, like the North American quartet DUEL. Their latest album, "In Carne Persona", is spewing forth personality. Their musical work can be described as a form of Psychedelic Stoner Metal/Rock plenty of Heavy Metal influences. There are many elements that were taken from late 60's/early 70's like BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, BLACK SABBATH and THIN LIZZY mixed with elements from the beginning of the NWOBHM, with abrasive melodies and strong instrumental parts, along melodic vocals. It's creative, full of energy and catchy, even dealing with an old musical genre, but as two of the band's members played on SCORPION CHILD, creativeness isn't a problem.
The production of the album worked in a form to bring a massive and nasty sonority that resembles the organic recordings from the past, but using the advantages from our modern days. It's like they just entered the studio, plugged and set their gears, and played (what means that they did things without endless digital editions, and used musical instruments as in the past, just playing and recording as simple as they could). It's good, indeed.
This is the band's fourth album, which explains the maturity heard on it. And songs as "Children of the Fire" (a massive and organic appeal comes from the work of the guitars, both on riffs and solos), "The Veil" and "Anchor" (what great catchy sets of melodies on both songs, with charming psychedelic contrasts of ambiences, and the vocals fits on every part of the songs), "Wave of Your Hand" (a 'sabbathic' song with slow tempos and a massive energy coming from bass guitar and drums), "Dead Eyes" (a charming mix between the roughness of Stoner Rock with accessible melodies, and what good work from guitars and vocals), and "Blood on the Claw" (contrasts between electric parts with tender moments are presented in a great form here) are offerings that anyone must take.
Yes, "In Carne Persona" is really one great work created by DUEL, so let's hope the band will grow in popularity. They deserve it for sure!
