Desontstijging
Druon Antigon
Metal is full of surprises each day, because there's always something new happening right now, and keeps music as interesting as in the days BLACK SABBATH started this whole musical genre we all love from the deepest parts of our hearts. So be prepared for a new experience when dealing with "Desontstijging", the first release of Belgian one man band Druon Antigon.
It's a form of mixing Dark Ambient music with Black Metal, creating a morbid and darkened form of music, filled with introspective and oppressive ambiences. It's really a Black Metal release, but using some influences that can bring to mind Psytrance artists as BAPHOMET ENGINE in some moments (when the electronic parts and effects are clear to the ears). Obviously many did something in Dark Ambient Black Metal before, but nothing like this.
The main problem: the sonority of the album. In some aspects, it seems to search for something crude and nasty as the first Black Metal releases from the 90's, and such sound quality doesn't fit on what the band wants to express in musical form. Better luck on the next time. Obviously, Black Metal fans with the need of purity in the genre (as it would be possible) will have a hard time trying to swallow the band's music. But the musical efforts shown on "Zinloos", "Herrijzenis", "Like Gods" and "Weavess" (yes, Lennart uses long songs to express his musical ideas) are filled with many good ideas that are still immature, but it's a matter of time to become great.
For now, DRUON ANTIGON is a promising good rising name, and "Desontstijging" can be seen as a corner stone for a whole new musical conception in the future.
