A Storm of Steel

Domination Campaign

A fine Australian Death Metal act on its second release. For extreme Metal addicted!
March 21, 2024

After the coming of AC/DC from Australia in the 70s, things were not the same there. It unleashed a storm there, with acts as HEAVEN, PARKWAY DRIVE, I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN, MORTIFICATION, DESTRÖYER 666, AIRBOURNE, MORTAL SIN, ARMOURED ANGEL, NE OBLIVISCARIS, SADISTIK EXEKUTION and many others showing the diversity of the country’s scene. And with “A Storm of Steel” (the band’s second release), DOMINATION CAMPAIGN is back for another round. The drummer Joe Haley signs the album’s recordings, mixing and mastering, creating a sonority that depicts the main core of what Death Metal recordings are about.

In other hand, it’s defined in a way that everything can be understood without problem (because they evaded to overload the instrumental tunes). It’s a very good result, after all, enveloped by the fine artwork of Jason Peppiatt for the cover. Musically, the band works on a model of Death Metal that is traditional, but not sounding into an Old School Death Metal model. It’s full of influences coming from Thrash Metal and Thrash/Death Metal (as the screamed tunes of the vocals, instead of the traditional grunts). It’s filthy and aggressive, but one can check that there are thinking minds behind the songs due their harmonic structures and some unusual traces. It’s good, indeed.

The band’s creative level is very good (besides it seems that they have potential to do even better than is shown on this album), and songs as “Time to Die” (very good rhythmic shifts and aggressive appeal on the guitar riffs), “The Iron Beast” (where some Blackened Death Metal traces can be heard on the guitars arrangements), “D-Day” (a massive bombing of very good and dynamical arrangements, and fine screams on the vocals), “Storm the Lines” (where some Hardcore catchy influences can be heard into the mix) and “141 Days of Terror” depicts their tendency to evolve and grow.

For the future, the name of DOMINATION CAMPAIGN will surely grow if the band keeps in this way. For now, “A Storm of Steel” is a fine release, indeed.
