Diesomnia - Pray for the Flood album cover

The Death Metal School of the USA sounds pretty strange sometimes. If one compare any Death subgenre of USA with other Schools, one will have a clear idea that North American acts always keep both feet on the traditional form of the genre. Trying to explain in a shorter way: even Melodic Death Metal or Progressive Death Metal North American bear strong traces of traditional Death Metal, as the quintet DIESOMNIA, of
Springfield (Ohio) depicts on "Pray for the Flood". They're not a traditional Death Metal act in the rigid sense of the word, with some traces that resembles Melodic Death Metal bands in their earlier works (as AT THE GATES on the days of their Demo Tape "Gardens of Grief" or DEATH during the days of "Spiritual Healing").

It's brutal and oppressive, with many fast parts inherited of Hardcore and Crossover, some 'slayerian' guitar riffs; but at the same time, the melodic aesthetics appears on subjective form in the arrangements, and even some traces of Groove Metal arises (as on "Blood Red Sorrow"). No, they're not trying to imitate anyone, their music has personality and energy enough to deserves applause, but they need to mature a bit more (just a bit more). The production worked in a form to bring the songs of "Pray for the Flood" a massive and aggressive outfit that is usual for traditional Death Metal acts. And maybe this fact brings this idea of a band with a traditional outfit of the genre with some melodic care spoken above, because it's aggressive and full of energy, but defined in a very good way, and the instrumental tunes used are alright as well. But it could be better sometimes.

There are six bone-eroding songs on the EP, all of them being very good and showing a band with potential to use, as "Pray for the Flood" (a fast and brutal song with some technical parts on the guitars, and a very good chorus as well, where some groove appears), "No Truth" (many rhythmic shifts can be heard and excellent guitar arrangements can be heard, with slow 'slayerian' riffs and a solid and brutal work of bass guitar and drums), "Blood Red Sorrow" (another fast song with thunderous aggressiveness, and some disturbing nightmare-like arrangements and fine grunts), and "You Will Know Loss", but as told above: the quintet needs to mature a bit more.

For this EP, DIESOMNIA deserves applause, but they can create music in a better form shown on "Pray for the Flood", it's clear to anyone.
