The Canadian musician Devin Townsend doesn't need further presentation, because he is widely known for his works with STEVE VAI, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND and others, and he is always pushing Metal musical to new limits. He is extremely creative, as you can hear on new DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT album, "Transcendence." Here, many Progressive Metal and Ambient Music are mixed and can be heard in this way, with a modern outfit (that you can hear clearly on guitar tunes,) some musical experiments (as we are used to hear on Devin's albums,) touches of technique and presence of broken rhythm, but always keeping the high level of quality. Yes, once more, he created an excellent album.

The sound quality is really excellent, so we can understand exactly what the band is playing, because it's clean. But don't have wrong ideas, my dear nephews and nieces, because the musical weight is present as well. Then, we can say that it's a fine and good work done by Devin on the production and mixing (where he had the help of Adam 'Nolly' Getgood) and Ermin Hamidovic on mastering.) "Transcendence" is a fine album, and the guest appearances of Anneke van Giersbergen, Ché Aimee Dorval and Katrina Natale on vocals give an additional elegant touch to the album.

Best moments: the modern Progressive outfit presented on "Truth" (with its pretty good technical approach and excellent female voices), the tender and grandiose atmosphere that "Stormbending" has (very good work from vocals and keyboards), the aggressive guitar tunes and alternative scent used on the heavy and tender "Secret Sciences," the heavy work of the rhythmic session on the grandiose "Higher" (very good chorus and vocals, indeed), the fine melodic moments that we can hear on "Transcendence", the aggressive Metal approach on "Offer Your Light" (very good keyboard parts and guitars on this short song), and the excellent version for WEEN song "Transdermal Celebration." Devin is truly a creative musician and has a lot to offer to Metal, so I hope he will stay with us for a long time.
