Derange - The Awakening album cover

There are some modern musical tendencies on Metal scene that are really making the skin of old headbangers (or those who think of themselves as veterans) crawl. Yes, the modern tendencies are really different from anything done before. But I think it's the same feeling that 70's Metal fans had when Thrash and Death Metal came to life in the 80s, and 80's headbangers had when Industrial and New Metal appeared. I really understand those who do not like bands as SLIPKNOT, TRIVIUM, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE or any band that appeared since 2000 with a more modern sound.

What I'll never accept are the complains, because it's what we call "evolution", a thing that comes as time goes by. And we can say that DERANGE is a fine example of a modern band, as their first album, "The Awakening" is here to roof.

A fine mix between melodies with more harsh and aggressive moments, as some modern bands are doing right now. The main difference is their musical insight, their vision of what they want to play, having a more polite and accessible work in some moments, but always with a good technical level in each song. But don't be mad with them: they really know how to play hard and heavy when it's needed.

The hands of Russ Russell (that worked previously with DIMMU BORGIR, NAPALM DEATH, AMORPHIS, and other bands) done the album's production, and maybe here is their biggest difference: their music flows clean and heavy in both ways, with a thunderous sound when needed, but with clarity on tender parts as well. I believe that "The Thinker" (their first video from this album, with the mix of introspective moments with harsh and aggressive ones, with a lovely work done by Caton vocals), the accessible "The Observer" (a fine work on vocals again, followed by great riffs), and the excellent "This Is The End" (a fine and good rhythmic work is done by bass guitar and drums) can be pointed as their best songs, but the entire album is very good.

A good name for now, but can become greater and better on the future.
