Immersion
Depicting Abysm
Since Black Metal did divided in a lot of sub styles, some good new ones appeared, but what some call it Depressive Black Metal or Post Black Metal really is not something easy to hear and to like, for its depressive atmosphere sometimes can make us all be tired, and it's a bigger problem when these kind of bands tries to make giant tracks. And the Russian duo DEPICTING ABYSM that comes from Saint Petersburg abuses from our ears, and their new album, "Immersion", is a trial for our patience.
And by my fucking patience, even with some more aggressive moments, I almost fell asleep with their work. Very good technique in their instruments (specially the bass guitar), good vocals (they remember something from BURZUM's early works), the arrangements are fine, but their music never get anywhere.
The sound production could be better, but it's not bad at all, for all instruments can be heard with no problem. The artwork is very simple, but functional the way it is.
Four big sized tracks await us all, being different one from another, but please, an album with more than 40 minutes having only four tracks, and one of them being an instrumental that last more than 8 minutes? Isn't it so boring?
The better of them all is "Le Mariniste", the one with a more variation of moments and good riffs. The others really only make us all tired, or if you have some strange ways of think, it can be harmful.
They really have potential, but must change some approaches soon, to get some better results.
