Towards Inevitable Ruin
Defiled
In the 80s, we started to see Metal bands appearing in Japan. It was pretty strange that a country that had one show for day didn't seem to have a Metal scene. But things begin to change with the coming of LOUDNESS, ANTHEM, E.Z.O. and many others. But Extreme Metal bands couldn't be found in those days, Soon, however, we heard about SABBAT, and on the 90s, SIGH appeared. A little later, a lot of Extreme Metal bands appeared in Japan. So, to hear albums as "Towards Inevitable Ruin," from Tokyo home based veteran band DEFILED is not something we couldn't expect. Their music can make Mount Fuji tremble on its geological base!
They are veterans from the beginning of the 90s, so don't expect from them something new at all. They are an Old School Brutal Death Metal band with some explosive Grindcore influences, being brutal and fast (but showing some slow tempos in many moments), but keeping an outstanding musical technique. They are really good, so if you're a fan of Extreme Metal, DEFILED is a name you must know at any cost! The production of "Towards Inevitable Ruin" was done in a way that their music sounds as brutal and violent as it can, but with a clean quality. Of course, a production that could give their music some essential dirtiness and rawness would be welcome, but it is very good in the way it is.
There are 13 short musical onslaughts on "Towards Inevitable Ruin," all of them very good, but we can say that their best massive killings are: the brutality of the guitars shown on the riffs of "Subversion" (very good technical chords, indeed), on "Cauterized" and on "Doomsday", all of them showing very good technique; but as well, the technical work from bass guitar and drums that we can hear on "Force and Obedience" (filled with some good rhythmic changes), on "Fear from Above" (where some Grindcore touches are extremely clear), and on "Debunked" is really excellent. But the nasty guttural grunts we hear during all the songs, especially on the short ones "One World" and "Towards Inevitable Ruin" need to be pointed as well. And as a bonus track, we have the nasty blunt called "Defiled" that shows a great performance of the entire band. If you like musical brutality, listen and buy this album. You won't regret it!
