Metal maniacs, rejoice! I'm proud to present to you: DEFIATORY; signed via Black Lion Records, hailing from Swedish grounds - performing Thrash Metal, on their debut album entitled "Extinct". (released on June 3rd, 2016)
DEFIATORY were formed in 2015; the quintet in question have released only 1 album since their existence, incorporating from the roots of East Bay-Area styled Thrash Metal to that of METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT & EXODUS with a more modern incentive, what we have here is a newborn baby unleashing hell upon the Earth with its intricately designed balance of Death 'N' Thrash devilish compositions. It's always nice to see a newly created quartet contribute with prominence towards my favorite sub-genre - Thrash Metal, it shows that no matter how hard negative critiques of Metal in general like to extinguish the genre with "it's dead" comments, this positive reviewer of the genre will always retaliate with a resounding HELL NO...because with "Extinct", I am enjoying a solidified slab of proficient Thrash Metal that was created for old-school Metal fans in general.
Consisting of 8 consistent tracks ranging at around 37:39, and a 4-piece band who elegantly justifies their place in Thrash Metal with divine clarity, "The Final Conflict" opens up "Extinct" with shocking effects. Even though I went in with high expectations; I was still pleasantly surprised with how DEFIATORY showcased complex rhythmic chaos in their efforts. Martin Runnzell's distinctive flair displays an organic vocal range that elements at a Hardcore aesthetic, grunting with a crunchy punch line incredibly. "Reaper", "Aeons End" & "Dogs Of War" implement more exquisite musicianship from the dexterous duo from Ronnie Björnström on guitars & Ludvig Johansson on lead guitars - full-throttle riff work gives a generously tight, furiously up-tempo thrash-inspired blast of fast and furious destruction... And the efficient powerhouse of Patrik Wall on bass & Jon Skäre on drums provides sufficiently to the sound production brilliantly too.
"Destiny", "The Black Vortex" & "Furor Unleashed" conclude "Extinct" with a vicious substance that leaves me wanting more, and my wish is granted with replay value that's enticing with dynamic and frantic material that will never get old. Certainly a band that will go places - if anything should happen to the giants of Metal, you can rest assure that DEFIATORY will gladly replace the throne in modern-age Thrash. Masterful.<
