Polarity (Reissue)
Decrepit Birth
It's interesting the great number of reissues done by Nuclear Blast Records on these times. But as a Metal fan, I must thank Markus Staiger (the label owner) for this wise decision: a lot of good and not well know bands are getting a new chance. And as he has a Midas touch, another fine piece of Metal art is shown by North American quintet DECREPIT BIRTH on their latest album to date, "Polarity", from 2010.
It's a strong and powerful Technical Death Metal band, but they use very pretty and wonderful melodies, and an intricate technique that gets near what DEATH done on "Symbolic" era, but brutal and aggressive. But don't get mad: these guys known how to get heavy. Great vocals (obviously using extreme grunts and with some harsh screams here and there), a perfect and wonderful work on guitars (technical and abrasive riffs, with very good and melodic solos), great and technical rhythmic kitchen, and come touches of keyboards on some parts. Their music sounds fast and aggressive in some moments, slow and bitter in other ones... Yes, these guys know exactly what they want, and how to do it.
The sound quality is near perfection: heavy and abrasive, but clear to the point that we can hear and understand what each musical instrument is playing with no difficulties. And the art is another fine piece of art done by Dan Seagrave. Well, in musical terms, there's no way to choose a best track. No, this album is perfect in all aspects. But besides that, I truly point for you the wonderful "(A Departure Of The Sun) Ignite The Tesla Coil" (that starts with very good and tender guitar accords, but them a violent inferno is unleashed, with very good work done by bass and drums), the more melodic and tender "The Resonance" (even with all the brutality, having a hooking grasp done by guitars), the well-worked "Polarity" (great technical riffs once more, remind a bit the guitar duo from NOCTURNUS on "Threshoulds" era), "Solar Impulse" (another tender and melodic track, with Progressive Rock influences, full of great tempos changes, showing a fantastic work from bass and drums), the aggressive "A Brief Odyssey In Time" (great work done by bass guitar), and their fine and excellent version for DEATH's "See Through Dreams".
Just a perfect album, no more words are needed. And a big thank you to Mr. Staiger for one more great album.<
