Fall From Grace
Death Angel
Dear nephews and nieces! There are some polemical albums on this world that really can astonish us due the lack of honesty from some record labels, but they are items that you must have in your collections. And this is the case of "Fall From Grace", a live album from DEATH ANGEL. Yes, this album has a strange history: it was recorded in Amsterdam on the Paradsio, July 9, 1988, on their tour for "Frolic Through The Park", having songs from their two first albums.
But it was released by their first label without the band's permission, and even their logo is absent on the cover. This is because in 1990 they were already on Geffen Records. It gave a strong headache for the band .Besides that, "Fall From Grace" is an excellent live album, presenting a very good sound quality (a good work done by Edward Ka-Spel on production), and showing how DEATH ANGEL was a band that played alive with a strong and intense energy. Keeping their songs to the same way they were recorded on their albums (no, there aren't execution mistakes or different ways on playing them) this put out the band's material without their permission. The only thing we really miss here is the sound of the audience that really is low.
Their setlist was near perfection, with songs from "The Ultra-Violence" and "Frolic Through The Park". Tracks on this album include a wide range of sounds from "Evil Priest", "Why You Do This", (expelling great amounts of energy from the guitars), the thunderous "Road Mutants", the energetic and aggressive "Voracious Souls" and "Bored", (one of their greatest songs, with a fine work done on vocals), and the fast and nasty "Kill as One". Other noteworthy pieces included on thi excellent work include "Guilty of Innocence", and the excellent "Final Death", which many fans consider to be among their finest songs. But I really missed the presence of "Thrashers". And one more very good thing about "Fall From Grace": you can hear and see how their technique evolved from their first album to the second, the differences between them, but as well you can feel that their personality hadn't changed.
A fine piece of music, and I hope that, this time, it is released without giving the band any kind of problem.
