Bile of the Gods
Deadspawn

One feature that happened a lot on the days when magazines and fanzines were distributing physical copies is the lack of coverage for some genres. There were thousands of bands releasing new album during the rise of a tendency that was almost impossible to give the same space for other genres that felt into underground. As an example, after the coming of first releases on Death Metal, many acts of the genre turned to Thrash Metal, and the attention for the first had vanquish. It gave the idea that Death Metal was dead, but it was just being reformatted on underground until the moment the Second Wave of Death Metal was unleashed. Today, with internet becoming a common thing to all, there’s no limits and everything is available with a good covering. This allows the fans to access “Bile of the Gods”, the second full-length of the North American quartet DEADSPAWN.
North American Blackened Death Metal is a bit different from the other formulas used in Europe or other countries, having deeper roots on traditional Death Metal ways of USA. In other words, the band unleashes a violent and brutal assault on Death Metal near of what is expected from USA Death Metal acts, but adorned with some subjective melodies here and there. It means that they sound brutal and aggressive, savage and full of energy, but with some melodic cares on the instrumental arrangements (pay attention to “Eyes of Savior” to have a clear idea of what such words mean). Phil Pluskota (a known sound engineer on USA underground who worked with acts as DÅÅTH, METAL AGAINST CORONAVIRUS and many others) signs the mixing and mastering, giving the album a brutal and defined sonority, where everything can be clearly understood. It’s really a very good work on this matter.
Musically, the band uses in a very good way contrasts between tempos, showing maturity on the arrangements and everything else. “Unsleep” (very good bass guitar and drums parts on the rhythms), “A Harrowing Pantheon”, “Eyes of Savior” (some classic fast tempos are filled with charming guitar riffs and arrangements), “Eminence Upon the Throne”, “Architect of Atrocity” (insane blast beats with very good death growls of the vocals), “Graveline” (pay close attention to the melodic arrangements improving the oppressive appeal of this one), “Catharsis” (a bone eroding moment based on traditional Blackened Death Metal ambiences) and “Bile of the Gods” are filled with very good instrumental arrangements, guttural death growls and a refined technical appeal, so it’s a very good release to deal with.
If you’re into Death Metal, you must listen to “Bile of the Gods”, and know what DEADSPAWN is up to.
