Dark Moor - Project X album cover

Since the times when Power Metal arose, in the first half of the 80s, it always had some mutations. It's a matter of adaptation, the survival of the fittest purely applied to the cultural world of man. Today, into Power Metal, there's a great variety of sub-types, an incredible diversity of sonorities. And that's good, a sign that Power Metal is alive and in good shape. And how is good to hear a band as the Spanish quartet DARK MOOR, a veteran of the style, still alive and releasing albums, as "Project X", their new album.

On this album, the band is extremely melodic and using a more conventional technique into Power Metal. It's like those bands from the second half of the 90s, as VISION DIVINE, BLIND GUARDIAN or DRAKKAR, where technique was not the principal feature of the band, but the songs as a whole. So we can say that they know what they want to do or how to play, using a even Hard Rock and Rock and Roll elements on their music. And it sounds so good!

The sound quality is fruit of a very careful production, done by Luigi Stefanini and Enrik García. And they knew what they were doing, because the quality is almost perfect, bringing the album the perfect proportions of weight and clearness, so we can understand clearly what the band is playing and we can have the best of their musical work.

All the songs from "Project X" are excellent, but I dare to name the energetic and grandiose "Abduction" (with its fine keyboards and great vocal work), the powerful and melodic "Beyond The Stars" (again with excellent work on keyboards, along with fine guitars), "Bon Voyage!", and the excellent "Gabriel" (the song for the first video, a bit more aggressive on the riffs) as their finest moments on the album.

These guys deserves to be more recognized into the scene!<
