Code - Augur Nox album cover

Wow, this album is truly amazing. This is what I must declare about CODE's new full-length, "Augur Nox", a truly piece of extreme Metal done with a lot of courage, and can really become one of the greater albums from this year.

The band breaks all boundaries and defies all classifications that reduce its sound. I can barely call their music Black Metal, sometimes sound like bands as ARCTURUS, BORKNAGAR and ENSLAVED, but a little more experimental and less progressive, with some passages with clean vocals, other ones the harsh high pitches, guitars sometimes rude, other ones more melodic and progressive, bass and drums with a more technical approach without losing weight and grip, so, it's a Riddle of the Sphinx: decipher or be devoured.

As their music flows, I can hear a sound production well worked, without being clean in the way their worked can be damaged (and out of extreme Metal), but you'll hear all the instruments with no trouble at all. And the artwork is fine, a somewhat Parnassian touch in it.

Complex and charming, it's not an easy album to hear, it demands an open mind and a not simplistic view of Metal, and all songs are precious gems, but you can pick "Black Rumination" (a more harsh track, even having good clean voices and beautiful slow riffs in some more slow and climatic moments), the more complex ones "Ecdysis" and "Garden Chancery", the more introspective and depressive "The Lazarus Cord", the intense "Trace of God" (with some touches of pure Rock N' 'Roll in its tempos), and the experimental one "Harmonies in Cloud".

Fantastic, is only we are left to say about CODE.
