Soulreaper Vol.1
Catch 22

Hmmm, here's something different for me. To say the truth, an album that has nothing to do with Black, Death and Thrash Metal or Hardcore is something really pleasant. It is something like a break from all the brutality, something to clear your mind and... remind you why the extreme Metal scene is the best! Ok, Power Metal is really good, but music is a matter of personal taste and my taste was always a bit more sick!
The band was kind enough to send their brand new full-length work all by themselves. It seems that the power metallers are deeply into the DIY ethics. Anyway, the band has done a really good job creating a package that contains the Soulreaper Vol.1 album, as well as a DVD that contains the band's videos for the songs Crawling, Cyberchrist and Atlantis Rising.
Oh, just to clear things out. I was just kidding when I said that this album is just to remind me that only the extreme Metal scene rules. Every Metal genre has its own beauty. So what do CATCH 22 have to offer to us? Hmm, US Power Metal with cool riffing and a more than good rhythm section. At first, I thought that they were just one more common band playing the same things as most of the bands do out there. CATCH 22 may play classic Heavy/Power Metal with some slight Thrash touches (call me IMAGIKA), but they show that they have the balls to do it really good! Every time I listened to the album, I discovered new stuff that made me like it even more! Ok, the sound could be better, but what the fuck? It's not like these guys sound like VON!
The album is full of nice melodies, heavy riffing and more than decent vocals from Mr. T.J. Berry. These guys show that they can handle both groove and fast Power Metal assault with ease and make us believe that we can listen to some really nice stuff from them in the future. As for the video clips, it would be better to leave them alone and not make any comments on them. Three videos that were shot with the same way and were edited on a PC. Just imagine the band playing and a different background for every video. They could definitely be better.
