High on Deception
Cap Outrun
In the musical universe that exists, nothing is too old that can't evolve. This conception enables everyone to leave the comfort zone and try something different, something that wasn't done before. It's obvious that creating is harder than copying, but it earns the musicians respect. And the quintet CAP OUTRUN deserves respect (and praise) for what's shown on "High on Deception".
They're doing an unusual fusion: binding together influences from Progressive Rock, AOR, Pop Rock and some catchy (and excellent) melodies, it's different. It sounds as JETHRO TULL and YES could meet TOTO and JOURNEY, and it means that is elegant, played with a polite and very good technical insight, but always accessible and amazing. And the energy that comes from the quintet's songs is hard to resist, indeed. So what are you waiting for? Drown into it, NOW! The production of "High on Deception" was done with two distinct aims: to be defined and clean, in a form that everything could be understood and the band can express its musical ideas without problems; and to be modern, to show that the band's musical core has life, and it's not a mechanical thing. And the final result shows that both goals were achieved.
All the songs are really amazing, an invitation to enter a different musical dimension. But the Prog Rock appeal shown on the melodies of "Crazy Enough" (with rich musical arrangements and technique, and what a lovely set of guitar riffs), on the AOR/Pop appeal of "High on Deception" (this one shows an 80's appeal in many moments, and what great work on vocals and backing vocals), the melodic and technical appeal of "In the Shade of the Masquerade" (the keyboards parts are amazing, creating a charming ambience for the melodic vocals), the long and Progressive "Shadows on the Wall" (that presents excellent and rich rhythmic shifts, and a good work on bass guitar and drums), the tender and introspective 'noir' appeal of "My Destination", and the modern Progressive Rock song "Dopamine Overflow" are the best for knowing what they're up to.
CAP OUTRUN did a very good work on "High on Deception" that deserves to be heard, so enjoy the experience!
