Canvas - No Love

English bands always are trying to create new ways of playing music. It's the very essence of those haunted shores from the past, the country that gave birth to the dinosaurs BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE, and that saw the rise of NWOBHM, one of the most important musical movements of all times. And now, it's time for one of the heirs of this long and fine heritage, the quintet CANVAS, from Bedfordshire, to try to open new horizons in music with "No Love, No Hope, No Future".

The most astonishing feature about this album is that they try to mix the aggressiveness of Hardcore vocals in the vein of HATEBREED with a more introspective (but still abrasive and aggressive) way of playing, with very good technique. They call themselves as "alternative punk", "hardcore melodic" and other labels, but Big Daddy here is tempted to say that it's a mix between Hardcore adrenaline and Doom/Gothic elements. And no, I'm too old to be kidding with you all, my dear nephews and nieces. If you think so, hear the clean guitars along with aggressive vocals, or the melancholic approach of their musical arrangements, along with heavy and technical rhythmic basis. Yes, these nephews of mine are not kidding!

A Clear and abrasive sound comes from the speakers, guaranteeing that you can really hear the best of the musical work with no trouble, as can hear the minimal of the arrangements.

Their album is good from the very beginning to the end, but tracks as "Live.Exist", "Tired Eyes", the introspective and wonderful "Tarot" and "Eulogy" shows a lot how these nephews of mine can dare to reach new musical horizons. And for sure, they'll get in there soon!

Buy it, and have your own voyage.
