Left Hand Pass
Cannabis Corpse
Well, after a lot of laughter when I saw the band's name (sorry, I could control myself), the listening of "Left Hand Pass" showed that the North American trio CANNABIS CORPSE is really a worthy act. Yes, they are pretty good! To explain a little more, the trio is a side project of Landphil, from MUNICIPAL WASTE, a Death Metal act inspired by CANNIBAL CORPSE with lyrical themes that make apology for the use of cannabis sativa (the so-called marijuaba or dope), and even some hilarious parodies with Death Metal clichés. But be aware of a thing: their talent goes beyond a copy or parody. It's a thunderous and brutal form of traditional Death Metal with virtuous bass playing and it is filled with great amounts of raw and brutal energy, and even some good and somber melodies appear in many points of the album. Be prepared to have strong neck aches when dealing with "Left Hand Pass".
Taylor Young (mixing) and Alan Douches (mastering) made a great work on the album's sonority. Obviously, there's that abrasive and heavy filth to turn the aggressiveness of their music obvious, but you can understand what the band is playing and even each musical detail. Yes, we can say that the sound quality of "Left Hand Pass" is excellent for what they play. The artwork created by Pär Olofsson is really amazing and hilarious, getting the band's lyrical ideas. The band is very good, indeed, and offers very good songs for the fans of extreme Metal genres. As their finest moments, we can point to the nasty rawness of "The 420th Crusade" and the very good work on rhythmic session, the morbid melodies of the guitars on "In Dank Purity", the brutal grasping riffs of "Chronic Breed", the chaos made music shown on "In Battle There is No Pot" and the very good grunts, the Hardcore essence of "Left Hand Pass", the oppressive and fast drumming on "Effigy of the Forgetful", and the aggressive technical insight of "Papyrus Containing the Spell to Protect Its Possessor Against Attacks from He Who is in the Bong Water". I believe that Death Metal fans will understand the jokes on the songs' names, because I'm still laughing my guts out here.
CANNABIS CORPSE is a very good band, and "Left Hand Pass" is really a fine piece of extreme music.
