Dust to Gold
Bullet
There are things that can make my mind travel to the past, to my earlier years as a Metal head. Those golden times of my life showed excellent bands from traditional Heavy Metal with very good melodic works. I have a personal love for the German Heavy Metal School, in names as ACCEPT, RUNNING WILD, HELLOWEEN and others. To hear a band as the Swedish quintet BULLET is really great. These guys know how to make good Music, as we can hear on their latest album, "Dust to Gold". They play in the same vein of old bands from Germany, Holland and Belgium, with the aggressiveness from earlier Speed Metal, the melodies of traditional Heavy Metal and classic Hard Rock, with a vocalist that can remind you of the tunes from Chris Boltendahl. But even playing without bringing anything new at all to Metal, how lovely is their musical work. Yes, it's amazing how they don't sound moldy or outdated.
Maybe the answer for that rests on the production of "Dust to Gold". They use modern techs to record, so we have the spirit of the old days on the songs coming from the music itself and from the instrumental tunes (and I believe that they used simple effects and equipment to sound as organic as they can). But the high definition on the sound means that the work of Magnus Sedenberg (who produced and mixed the album) was done in a way that could mix the organic elements from the past with a modern outfit.
Let me tell you: these drunken madmen from Sweden can seduce you at the first listen. The energy and melodies of "Speed and Attack" (how love these guitar riffs and solos sound), the charming tempos and harmonies of the hooking "Ain't Enough" (that mix between weight and melodies from hard Rock works perfectly here) and on "Rouge Soldier", the abrasive tempos of "Fuel the Fire", the raw energy that comes from "One More Round", the headbanging incite called "Wildfire" (very good vocals and choirs), and... Forget it! This album is extremely good from the beginning to the end, it's not only difficult to choose the best moments, but an injustice with their work. And with my own feelings! Along with their own talent and quality, in my chest, pulses a Metallian heart, forged on the 80's, and this format means a lot to me. Hear it, buy it, but at any cost, pay attention, because BULLET is here to stay.
