Bad Bones - Hasta El Final! album cover

When dealing with acts in Hard/Glam Metal, one must have in mind that there are two main trenches into the genre: that one that is more accessible and inherit influences of AOR (something that BON JOVI and JOURNEY were up to in their successful days), and those that use filthy and aggressiveness in their music, without leaving aside the hooking melodies (and maybe MÖTLEY CRÜE and RATT are fine examples of it). So it's right to say that the Italian trio BAD BONES follows the second way, as can be heard on "Hasta El Final!", the band's latest album. It sounds nasty and aggressive, as a Glam Metal act that inherits a lot of influences of MOTÖRHEAD and AC/DC (what means that the band plays in a filthy way), full of energy and savage as a wild cat; but on the other hand, their musical work is plenty of hooking melodies that once heard, never forgotten (as can be clearly heard on "Liberdad") in a vein similar to acts as VAN HALEN.

The instrumental technique isn't exaggerated, the vocals and backing vocals are fitting on the band's music, so besides such formula isn't new at all, is honesty and filled with personality. "Hasta El Final!" bears a sonority that resembles the early age of Glam Metal, when things were done in the most organic form, without the aesthetical care that could sound too polish for the genre. It's a very good result, the band plays and can be understood, so things are right in this matter (besides their music deserves something better, something in the same vein where "Out of the Cellar" and "Shout at the Devil" are).

Musically, these 8 songs are really amazing, offering fun and a good time for the fans (if someone is looking for other thing, sit in a classroom), but for a first ride into this Glam Metal roller-coaster, "Bandits" (a heavier and nasty song with resemblances with the filthy approach of MOTÖRHEAD in some moments, but always with charming melodies and excellent vocals), "Behind the Liar's Eyes" (on this one, the aggressiveness decreases a bit, allowing the melodies to become more evident, and what charming guitar riffs are heard), "Wanderers & Saints" (clearly an accessible song, with guitars with 'van halenian' arrangements, and a solid and heavy work of bass guitar and drums), "Sand on My Teeth" (this one shows that greasy and melodic set of influences inherited of Country Rock and Blues, with filthy melodies), "Libertad" (as written before, this song is accessible and a radio-orientated one, with melodies and ambiences that allows the trio to reach a broader public, with a remarkable chorus and very good vocals and backing vocals), and "Home" are the right ones.

"Hasta El Final!" is a very good release, indeed, and BAD BONES deserves applause for such an offering. Hear and enjoy!
