Private Vices, Public Pleasures
Alleycatz
Today, it's extremely common for bands to record their albums and put them only on digital platforms on internet, and to release few physical copies of an album or EP. The reason is simple: the number of people used to such format is far greater than the other, and internet is just the best market for finding music today. So many fans can enjoy the work of ALLEYCATZ shown on its first EP, "Private Vices, Public Pleasures". In reality, this British 'band' is focused on the Joseph James, its sole member. And the EP delivers a form of Sleaze Rock/Metal (a subgenre of Glam Metal) in the same vein of MÖTLEY CRÜE, KISS (during the band's 80s phase) SHOTGUN MESSIAH, and FASTER PUSSYCAT.
It means that the music is melodic and charming, but nasty and ferine, a combination that always showed excellent releases on the past. But pay attention: Joe isn't living off the past, because these songs have a fresh and living feeling, with excellent melodies and solid instrumental parts, good nasty vocals, and the energy of the band's music impacts on the ears and engrave a mark on the hearers' minds. The sonority tries to align the old and organic feeling that Sleazy Rock/Metal acts presented on the past (like a live show on studio), but taking advantages of the modern devices. The songs present a very good and defined sound quality, but bearing a filthy crude touch.
The songs show a combination between the melodies of Glam Metal and Hard Rock with the heavy weight of Heavy Metal (the same formula that acts as RATT and MÖTLEY CRÜE used on the early releases), but as written above, with actual outfit that makes the hearing of "She's a Vixen" (a nasty Glam/Sleazy Metal song plenty of melodic hooks, based on excellent guitar riffs and with a charming chorus), "Big City Girls" (this one is heavier than the previous, showing a caustic rhythm created by bass guitar and drums, what shows a strong influence of KISS), "Do It for the Rock N' Roll" (this one bears some nasty elements inherited from Punk Rock on its melodies, with nasty vocals), "Stage Door" (this is the heavier song of the EP, with clear touches of traditional Heavy Metal on some moments), and "Cutting Corners" (the bonus song, and it's more accessible than the others, a good song for radios, indeed) a very good experience.
For the fans of Glam Metal and all its genres, "Private Vices, Public Pleasures" is a 'must have' release, and all that's left to say is be welcome, ALLEYCATZ.
