Across the Swarm - Projections album cover

Since the coming of the Second Invasion of Death Metal unleashed back in 1989-1990, the genre itself became expressive and alive for the new generations to come. It evolved, it grew, and it still here, gathering new generations of fans throughout the world. And the extreme Metal School of Italy always had very good names, so to hear a band as ACROSS THE SWARM isn't a great surprise at all. And their EP "Projections" is a good first coming.

They play a brutal and technical form of traditional Death Metal, heavily influenced by North American school (especially from Florida), with very good changes of ambiances (from the brutal fast tempos to introspective bitter slow parts). But in their music pulses the different influences from other genres, and even some Groove/Thrash Metal elements can be heard in the middle of their musical essence. Energy, brutality and a catchy outfit is what they offer, you can take it or leave it, but extreme Metal fans will take it for sure. The production created a dry and defined sound that fits on the brutal musical expression of the band, letting everything understandable during all the songs. Of course that some points could be done in their next release (the sonority is a bit 'robotic' in some moments), but for now it's good.

For the fans, songs as "Monito" (a brutal and massive blow of energy, with very good and technical work from drums and bass guitar), the abrasive groove in the middle of aggressiveness of "Knowing Became Doing" and "Projections" (very good guitar riffs on both of them), and the massive and hooking weighty approach of "Waiting for the Hyenas" are the ones indicated for a first time on their album. They still have a bit more to make their music great, but it's just a matter of time for ACROSS THE SWARM to spread its talons in the ears of extreme Metal maniacs.
