Abnormality - Mechanisms of Omniscience album cover

Sometimes, even experienced musicians can do something that is not as good as you are expecting. The guys from the North American quintet ABNORMALITY seems to be without musical inspiration when they were composing "Mechanisms of Omniscience," their second album. Their Technical Death Metal way is good, there's no doubt about it. Their work really sounds brutal, fast, technical and full of aggressiveness, but the connections sound in a mechanical way, when the music is coming from the mind, not from the heart. I hear too many Death Metal clichés that were used countless time before being used and abused here. The band has personality, but it's truly difficult to find it under such load of technical clichés.

The sound quality is fine, indeed. All the features you want to find on a Death Metal album sonority is here. It's really aggressive and thunderous, but with a good level of sound clarity, so you can get what they are doing and what they want to do in musical terms. The cover, designed and done by their vocalist Mallika is really a perfect picture of how aggressive their songs sound. Their music has some good points, but as I wrote above, it lacks of something that could be more particular. They are talented musicians, I must say it again, but there's a lack of something different from what was already done, and this means inspiration in the writing process of the songs. With some patience, you can say that the indicatives that they can do a better work are seen on the guitars on the oppressive "Swarm", the insane drumming that is hear on "Synthetic Pathogenesis", the long and filled with good rhythmic changes "Vigilant Ignorance", the grinding riffs of "Hopeless Masses", and very good grunts on "Cymatic Hallucinations". They are good, but they must put more efforts on the composing process as soon as possible.
