9Electric - Megalith album cover

In Modern Metal bands, it's extremely easy to find musical elements that are used by all its different genres (or are you thinking that the fragmentation of Metal genres is a feature from the 80's?), especially if the matter is the melodies. But it's not so difficult to understand bands in such ways. And being creative is the North American quartet 9ELECTRIC, from California, who comes with "Megalith". They're making a mix between modern Metal melodies with some Gothic Rock touches (in the most calm and introspective parts), and creating simple and catching melodies. Their musical work is not based on something hard to be assimilated by the senses, nor extremely technical. Their emphasis is on the songs, how to build them in a way that sounds spontaneous and heavy. And they really did a good job on the album, showing their musical personality adorned with an incredible energy.

The production was done in a way that their introspective touches are evident, but in a way that allows modern instrumental tunes to be set (and understood). But along some greasy and abrasive parts, there's a worry to sound clean as well. The best ones: "No Evil" and "God and Man", that share some elements (as the introspective parts that are similar to Gothic Rock bands, but the nasty and catchy choruses), the tribal rhythm of "I Don't Want to Be", the accessible "The Light" (where some duets of vocals are very good, indeed), the excellent vocals and backing vocals of "Diabolical" (the melodies are so easy to understand that the listener will sing along with the band in the second hearing), and the somber modern grasp on the melodies of "Dark Matter". But the album is really very good from the beginning to the end. 9ELECTRIC belongs to the new school of Metal of USA, so be prepared to be taken by force by "Megalith".
