A sunny day here in Rio De Janeiro, but we could fell a strange and tense feeling over the entire city, due menace of a turn-out of bus drivers and riot acts against the FIFA World Cup next month. But even with this all, this was the day for the second coming of Greek quartet ROTTING CHRIST, to make a great event, focusing the setlist on their first four albums, "Passage to Arcturo", "Thy Mighty Contract", "Non Serviam" and "Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers".
Before the event, the band had an autograph session on
Rock For You store, where they autographed CDs and vinyl albums, took pictures with the fans and talked with everyone, showing a lot of sympathy and charisma. The audience on
Teatro Odisséia was not as good as it could be, or talking in another words, as it was last year, on their first show on Rio De Janeiro. Maybe the cause were the riots, the turn-out menace or even the great number of shows for the last two weeks (and for the coming ones as well). Well, maybe some people don't know how many countries want to be in our place sometimes… And to violent rioters, a little session with the film
"Gandhi" would be of a great help for them.
Passing a little after 9 o'clock, an intro started to play, and the band came to the stage, playing "666", "Dub-Sag-Ta-Ke", and their great classics "The Sign of Evil Existence", "Transform All Suffering Into Plagues" and "Fgmenth, Thy Gift". They're one of the greatest names of Greek Metal, maybe the greatest of all, due their long hard work into Metal scene and the perfect albums. And, of course, due their energetic live shows.
At the stage,
Sakis is a perfect frontman, singing, playing his guitar, as his attitude on stage and communication with the public are in a level extremely high. And how this guy is charismatic! Is something beyond comprehension.
Georgis on guitar and
Vagelis on bass guitars are freer on the stage than on their first show here, always interacting with the public and being a powerhouse on the stage, having great attitude. And these guys are really savage on stage, by the Metal Gods, what energy. And
Themis is not only a great drummer in the sense of a strong a firm rhythm, but shows a good technique as well, especially on the double-bass.
And how was good to hear again some old songs as "The Nereid of Esgalduin", "The Forest of N'Gai", "Archon", "The Fourth Knight of Revelation", "Exiled Archangels" and "The Fifth Illusion", songs out of their setlist for many years, as well as hits like "King of a Stellar War" and "Non Serviam" (these ones with the public singing and getting wild on slamdancing).
And in two moments, they broke the old school felling of the night for great moments: the first were when they played a cover for
"Societas Satanas" from
THOU ART LORD (One of
Sakis' bands), and the encore, when they played
"Athanati Este",
"Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy", and
"Nemecic" (this one with all the public singing not only the chorus, but the principal guitar riff as well).
Another fine event done by Blog'n'Roll Produções, with the support from Teatro Odisséia. And please, guys: come back soon, and until we meet again, Non Serviam!
