Mark Zonder
A-Z
Sometimes it is how one feels, nothing everything has to be complex, it can be the reach for the hook. Catchy songs in Metal music were always sort of part of the plan, these rounded up people, empowered them with strong lyrics and tough music that took them forward. Of course, being complex and over the charts with musicianship skills is rand, but to find the right path for a song that would stick, that is touch. Mark Zonder, a veteran drummer that saw a lot and his history is known, gathered up a few talented musicians to form A-Z. With a debut album out, Steinmetal had to find out about the new group, and talk shop about music.

GWENDYDD
had an incredible year 2022 so far packed with highlights. The
Bulgarian
extreme Metal band signed with
German
Metal institution
Drakkar Entertainment
at the beginning of the year and then released their second album "
Censored
" in May 2022. They went on to a
European
tour supporting
DARK TRANQUILITY
and
ENSIFERUM
, before they did their ever first headlining tour through
Europe
. A short trip to
Wacken
summed up a very hectic year.
Metal Temple
writer
Thomas Kumke
talked with
GWENDYDD
about their journey with plenty of interesting stories.
Cody Souza
Hatriot
It has been a pain to be isolation, closed up from the world, keeping it closer to family without the ability to head out there and do even the basics. The American Thrash Metal band, Hatriot, like many others, remained at their homes, while the pandemic was loose. Nevertheless, they didn't back down and unleashed all of their anguish into a new album, "The Vale Of Shadows", released by Massacre Records. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's vocalist, Cody Souza, the son of, about the album's experience, goals and more.
Marko Pukklia
Altaria
Even when there are fragments of bad luck, here and there, nothing is bound to fail in the long run. The Finnish Metallers, Altaria, decided to return to the Metal scene after several years being disbanded. Nonetheless, they made their return when the world started to go crazy with a pandemic. After delays and postponed events, the reunion was made, playing and shows, signing with a new label, and also a new album, "Wisdom". Steinmetal talked about the new era of the band with the veteran Marko Pukklia.
Robby Thomas Welsh
Purpendicular
Metal Temple
writer
Fred Bonanno
recently spoke with
Robby Thomas Walsh
from the band
PURPENDICULAR
, the Irish singer started the band in 2007 originally as a
DEEP PURPLE
tribute act which then evolved and began to play original material. With the release of their third studio album in September 2022
"Human Mechanic"
that features
DEEP PURPLE
drummer
Ian Paice.
Chris Boltendahl
Grave Digger
Hear the Heavy Metal Breakdown of the Reaper as Grave Digger drop the bomb with their latest Battle Cry - "Symbol Of Eternity". Hell is my Purgatory as I play these Knights Of The Cross' best release in a decade. With the heart of a warrior, I, Michael Francisco spoke to the Headbanging Man himself - Chris Boltendahl - about his forthcoming Solo album, the anecdotal exhumation of "Storming The Brain", the more commercial aspects of Digger, and being healed by Metal. Celebrate this Symphony Of Death as we go back to the roots!
Resistance
Dan Luna
Because it is true, it is mighty, it is strong and it is Metal. Not one of the most original lines, but what the heart feels is much meaningful than anything else, no question about that. To be inspired of what lives inside, that is major. Talking with Dan Luna, guitarist of the US Power Metal band, Resistance, shows that the flame is strong, alive and breathing well. It is ageless. Coming with a new album, "Skulls Of My Enemy", through Pure Steel Records, there is an attack on the way and it is bound to be listened to. Steinmetal had a good chat about the album, the experience, new people and more…
Alex Frey
DeVicious
When enough is enough, better to just let it all out and let everyone face what has been buried deep down. Sure, there is a way to express anything that aches the heart, but why not write about instead of doing something that is considered harsh right? Being struck by the wave Covid, things went to a halt for the DeVicious camp, like all the world of culture worldwide. The new release of "Black Heart" sums up a tough period for the band and a great platform where all that ached was unleashed. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's Alex Frey about it all.
Angela Di Vincenzo & The Band
Secret Rule
Melodic Metal band
SECRET RULE
has been a mainstay in the
Italian
Metal scene during the last few years. Being formed by
Andy Menarini
and
Angela di Vincenzo
in 2014, they released eight albums in eight years. "
The Resilient
" has been released in July 2022, just on time for the European tour with
SEMBLANT
.
Metal Temple
writer
Thomas Kumke
was lucky to talk with the whole band about touring, the new album, and
SECRET RULE
chose
Metal Temple
to make an important announcement….
Christian Sommerfeld
Circle Of Silence
It hasn't been easy for the German Power Metal band, Circle Of Silence. Losing their bass player, Björn Boehm, just recently (R.I.P), hasn't been easy. Boehm was one of the band's influential songwriters and a prominent member that his magnitude was felt. Nonetheless, it was important to continue his legacy and the band's new album, "Walk Through Hell", is an evidence to one's life's work. Steinmetal had the pleasure to explore Boehm's important to the band, along with info on the album's dark nature and more, with Christian Sommerfeld, that had a lot to tell about the experience.
Danny Felice
The Heretic Order
It is about the nature of the soundtrack, the testament of the sound, the power of the heaviness, and of course, the darkness within. With each story, each song to be exact, there is a pure reflection on reality, upon its darkened nature. Things aren't right, there is a general feeling that destruction is imminent, and only time will tell. The Heretic Disorder, one of the legions of the darkened art between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, fulfil yet another vision with the release of "III". Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's Danny Felice, about the new album, what is going on in the world and even aliens.
Erik Bäck
Devil's Tail
New beginnings, new opportunities, searching for better ways to express one's self can be quite challenging, and through the extreme form of music, freedom can be achieved. Of course, it is always dependent on the person. Starting a new journey of extremity, another formation of the Black Metal hand, there is the newcomer, Devil's Tail. Essentially a one-man show, which has evolved to a duo and now even preparing its live version, recently issued its debut album, "Desolation". Steinmetal had a good talk with Erik Bäck, the one behind the riffs, about the experience of creating a new band, a new album and more…
Andreas "Gerre" Geremia
Tankard
For 4 Decades Frankfurt's Beerbarians known as Tankard have been true to their Metaltometal chemical invasion. Now considering themselves Pavlov's Dawgs, stone cold sober, and poised to release their newest and best in well over a decade, these ex-fluencers of the Metal Cash Machine, with one foot in the grave, endure for a thousand beers. Michael Francisco spoke with Gerre - The King Of Beer- all about the new album and its superb production, their new label, Touring plans, and his profession as a Social Worker. If you thirst for the meaning of life, have a listen, and indulge!
Christofer Malmström
Darkane
Consequences, consequences, there are plenty of examples throughout history where people never did really care about what would happen if, and this is referred to life changing events. Returning from the cold with their brand new album, "Inhuman Spirits", the Swedish Melodic Death / Thrash Metallers, Darkane, left no doubt about their musical heritage or their knack to blast through brainwaves. Channeling aggression, along with a pure sense of Swedish melody, Darkane delivered a mighty proof that they still have it. Steinmetal had a good talk with the veteran Christofer Malmström about the new album, the return and more…
Dan Lorenzo
Patriarchs In Black
Just to play the music the one likes and adores. Sometimes there are those that forget that every artist out there is influenced and just simply likes to tag along with foundation that made him start everything from scratch. When ex-Hades guitarist Dan Lorenzo started his collaboration with the mighty busy bee drummer, Johnny Kelly (also fondly remembered as Type-O-Negative's skinman), it worked like a charm and Patriarchs In Black started out. Recently, the duo unleashed their debut album "Reach For The Scars", signed to the German MDD Records. With Black Sabbath as their chief influence, things turned out to be punchy. Steinmetal had to find out more from Mr. Lorenzo.
Dominik Hellmuth
Nightbearer
In order to find a way out of reality, there is nothing better than finding that way in order to leave it behind, or at least dormant. Escapism is the way to do it, and if there is Sci-Fi involved, there is a lot to explore. It wasn't the first time that Steinmetal and Nightbearer's Dominik Hellmuth had a chat about the philosophy and musical experience in relation to the band. Now, with the release of the band's new album, "Ghosts Of A Darkness To Come", shows an even deeper meaning, and experience that is the next step of old school Death Metal.
Marco Pastorino
Fallen Sanctuary
In every dark patch, there is a source of light, in every sadness there is hope. If there is a thing that Metal music hasn't been associated with optimism but rather showing that life isn't so pretty as the Pop culture show. Nevertheless, even Metal music can show that things within the black, or beyond the Grey, might not be that bleak. The newly founded Italian / Austrian cooperation of Fallen Sanctuary, and their debut album, "Terranova", show that there is brightness, something to aspire to. Steinmetal had a talk with guitarist / vocalist, Marco Pastorino, about his partnership with Serenity's Georg Neuhauser, the band's spiritual healing and more…
Martin Missy
Protector
Simplicity loves company, and fans will rejoice. To be proficient and technical in knowledge and ability isn't everything, it is how a song that one writes is built and how it inspires. Old school Metal will never change its ways, apart from the modern edge that always seeks the next best thing in line to capture attention. It was already proved that the former will continue to expand and become relevant again, and the existence and activity of the German Thrash Metallers, Protector is one of many sources of evidence. Releasing their new "Excessive Outburst Of Depravity", there is old school for everyone and brutal. Steinmetal had a good talk with the band's longstanding vocalist, Martin Missy, about the album and the old school spirit.
Florian Funtmann
Long Distance Calling
Long Distance Calling
are a four piece band from Germany as they came together in the year of 2006 and were heavily influenced by the likes of
PORCUPINE TREE, LUNA
and
ISIS
as they adopted an instrumental sound around a time when the post rock or instrumental bands were in full flow in the UK, Europe and the US. It is astonishing that the band have indeed come up with such a sound which I found very interesting as they produce their albums with mostly no vocals, however some tracks do feature vocal snippets or excerpts from sci fi films for all the sci-fi fanatics out there haha!
The band's first release
SATELLITE BAY
in 2006 and their follow up
AVOID THE LIGHT
in 2010 certainly gave a good impression and idea for listeners to hear the roots of what the band is all about, instrumental, progressive and contemporary is how they could be described as. However they have had more releases since then including their self titled release in 2011,
THE FLOOD INSIDE
(2013)
, NIGHTHAWK
(2014)
, TRIPS
(2016),
BOUNDLESS
(2018) and
HOW DO WE WANT TO LIVE?
(2020). So with a new album on the way now as the year of 2022 is over halfway,
Metal Temple
writer
Andrew Harvey
was delighted to have the opportunity to listen to their music as there are four members including
DAVE JORDAN
on guitars as well as
FLORIAN FÜNTMANN
, then there is bassist
JAN HOFFMAN
and drummer
JANOSCH RATHMER.
Jonas Månsson
Sole Syndicate
Thinking about it, to write material that is quite dark, at times pessimistic and showing the uglier side of things, or rather the bitter truth, that is hard, especially when you are a positive, and quite happy, person. Nonetheless, reality dictates otherwise, it shows its face through the songs, even without really affecting a person's state of mind. Perhaps, that is the true way to deal with these kinds of things, the hardships of everyday life, through writing. The Swedish Metallers, Sole Syndicate, are back with a new message, a kind is food for thought. Steinmetal had to know more from the positive guy, Jonas Månsson
Tes Re Oth
Serpents Oath
It is about the approach, and how to perceive things. It has always been intriguing of why people believe in what they put their trust into, on a spiritual manner. To not question but to accept as if it is a fact of life, sometimes blindly, may as well be a cause to think about it in depth. Free will is something that people have in most of the modern world, but when it comes to belief, or faith for that manner, at times there is a sort of ban from questioning and judging differently. Raising the bar for the ultimate thought pattern struggle, there is Serpents Oath. The band's new album "Ascension" tells quite the story of a raging Heaven. Steinmetal had to know more about questioning and the story through the band's vocalist, Tes Re Oth.
Steve Bardsley
Black Rose
Age is just a number, the heart and spirit matter most. There have been plenty of acts that have been around for decades, some of them crossed a certain threshold that some people believe that it is straight away to retirement. However, it doesn't have to be like that and there have been plenty of examples showing the opposite, continue until you can't, fight them until you can't fight no more. One of the relics of British Metal are Black Rose, which were a different type of NWOBHM band back in the day. Even so, with their brand new "WTF", they came out stronger, heavier and uncanny than their earlier years. Steinmetal had a talk with long time member Steve Bardsley about the return with a new album, age and more…
Weirding Batweilder
Vinterdracul
VINTERDRACUL
is a gothic, black metal band from, of all places, Baltimore, Maryland. Formed in 2021 by
Weirding Batweilder
and
Jean Farraige,
they have just released their latest album
"The Lee Variations,"
based on vampires and horror films. It's a soundtrack into the interior mindset of the villain. It's intriguing, dark and scary.
Metal Temple
writer
Fred Bonanno
was able to dig into the mind behind this concept with
Weirding Batweilder.
Lorenzo "Kallo" Carlini
Black Therapy
Forward, onward, never retire from trying and striving to become stronger, better and go as far as possible. The motivation to burst towards desires, come up against obstacles, is not dropped from the sky out of nowhere, it is a matter of perception, to no let go or give in. The Italian Melodic Death Metal band, Black Therapy, might be a small band for the moment, yet their new album "Onward" is a pathway for greatness, to become a stronger entity in their scene and tougher live presence. Steinmetal had a chance to catch Lorenzo Carlini, also known as Kallo, for a talk about the experience of the album and more…
Thomas Berglie
Khold
No funny business here, just plain honesty, as cold as it can possibly be but true to form, without any hints of plastic. The Black Metal entity from Norway, Khold, returns after a period of eight years of silence. Each member consumed by a variety of projects but at the end, finding the path back to the fold. Signing to a new roster, a new home for their prospect, "Svartsyn" is unleashed from the cold right into one's doorstep, ready to be consumed. Steinmetal had yet again the pleasure to talk with Thomas Berglie, also known as Sarke, about the new album, the return to writing with Khold and more…
Markus Pfeffer
Lazarus Dream
At times there is a feeling that something needs to be showcased for everyone to experience, and that is outside the studio. However, there are too many attachments that need to be made in order to make that happen, and for a lot of people, it is quite the loss. Nonetheless, it is hard not to understand the deliberations going on within the mind of guitarist, Markus Pfeffer. Being busy with projects, other than actual live bands, have its advantages. Lazarus Dream's new album, "Lifeline", proves that there is something good going, yet there is a slight chance that it would see a stage. Steinmetal had a great talk with Pfeffer about the album, his relationship with Carsten Schulz and more…
Tomáš Halama
Heaving Earth
It can be referred as the gathering of the unfortunate, or maybe those who have lost all hope to have a taste of a better life, or in way, right before the last drop, a suitable death. It can be called suffering, but a kind of suffering that goes hand in hand up to the final moment, prior to the last gasp of air. Nearly coming out of the ashes, but with a strong will to remain, the Czech extreme Metallers, Heaving Earth, return with a new album, going dark, a little bit contemporary, but still knocking out jaws as they play. Steinmetal had a chance to talk with the band's prime Tomáš Halama about reforming, the new album, "Darkness Of God", and more…
Tom Naumann
Sinner
For over 4 decades, Germany's Sinner have always been comin' out fighting, and refuse to surrender. Their bottom line gravitas, and mettle have earned them the respect of generations. With just a touch of 90s retrospect, Sinner are poised to release "Brotherhood" July 15th on Atomic Fire Records. Take a trip to the danger zone as Michael Francisco speaks with mainstay guitarist Tom Naumann about the band's longevity, the recording process, their love for doing Covers, and Mat Sinner's health."
Torham
The Book
Mysticism, symbols, ancient rituals, through the enticing power of Metal music, on its earlier stage of the 80s, are cause for exploration and understanding. To find the true essence of the music, it takes a lot, as if a deep dive is needed in order to embrace the magic. Old schoolers ought to comprehend what this means, yet there is always an opening for the modern types to rally. The Czech Metallers, The Book, have been immersed by the golden age of Metal music, not just because they are fans, but for the quest. In light of the band's new album, "Forgotten Art Of Old", Steinmetal sat down with Torham about the experience.
Renata Petrelli
The Damnnation
The human condition has always been an intriguing topic that could be endlessly measured. To think that the human personality has so many angles, now that is something that could be covered, with tons of material written over it. The Brazilian Metallers, the Thrash / Death Metal band, The Damnnation, circle around their version of what goes on in the human mind, and interesting out take in a violent form. Signed to Soulseller Records, the trio was able to cross continents with their music, spreading their new "Way Of Perdition". Steinmetal had a good talk with Vocalist / Guitarist, Renata Petrelli, about their take on the album's experience.

Steve "Lips" Kudlow
Anvil
For over 4 decades Anvil has been pounding the pavement and establishing their Monument of Metal. With their 19th Studio endeavor, "Impact Is Imminent", they verify that the strength of steel is well worth the wait! Creating their most solid effort since "Hope In Hell", the Lockdown speed of sound was truly forged in fire. With plenty of power, the explosive energy will send a shockwave to your ego. Michael Francisco spoke with founding Father Lips about his lyrics, his Bass player Christ, and even Judaism. Take a lesson, and celebrate the absolutely no alternative approach.
Craig Rossi
Drift Into Black
So as it seems, there is no chance at all for humanity to survive in the far future, and let's hope that it is the far future and not the closer one. There have been too many reasons to why our existence is a big time question mark, however, people are living their lives, trying to get by, to make something out of what the present offers. Drift Into Black, and Craig Rossi, believe that there is a definite ending, and we are marching towards it with arms wide open. The band's new album, "Earthtorn", might be a concept story, totally fictional, but it shares a variety of messages that every listener should take note of. Steinmetal had a good talk with Craig about the entire journey.
Sabrina Valentine, Camden Cruz, Kevin Byrd, Keith Byrd
Seven Kingdoms
Florida's Female-Fronted Seven Kingdoms have just released a new album! After empty years of staring at the walls, chasing the mirage, and magic missed, they have solidified their sound into a more polished spectrum. This strident remedy may confuse those who prefer their European proclivities, but inspire new followers of the stormborn Queen and Kingslayers. Michael Francisco spoke with all the Stargazers about "Zenith", their unique Videos, and Covers. The Fire is Mind!
Ralf Scheepers
Primal Fear
Ralf Scheepers is a Man Of Mettle. His unique vocal style is synonymous with Teutonic Steel. His unbreakable spirit personifies how he has spent his whole life living for Metal. He embraced his watchful youth in Tyran' Pace, then explored his insanity & genius with Gamma Ray. All this culminated with Primal Fear, who will reissue their Debut as a Deluxe Version in early July. Now signed to Atomic Fire, the nuclear family promote the chainbreaker that initiated the formula, won over by a myriad of loyal fans for the past 25 years. Hold your Ground, and listen as Michael Francisco chats with the rulebreaker Ralph. Long Live Metal - In Metal We Trust!
Esko Itälä
Gladenfold
The undying battle between the two ultimate forces that may have a control over people's fates, good and evil. Each to its own, holding back their cards, the fight is forever lasting. The nemesis is within each and every one of us, it feeds upon our lives and every decision we make. However, is it on our side or against? The Finnish Gladenfold unravelled their version of what the nemesis is, through a new album, "Nemesis". Finding the edge between extremity and melodic driven Metal, of the European kind, the Finnish warriors are in battle. Steinmetal had a talk with the band's Esko Itälä, and he had quite the experience to share
