Kiriakos Balanos
Silent Winter
The rush and the adrenaline of the live show are elements that have been absent this past year due to the pandemic, which is still there with us, hitting at the centers of where Metal music lives and breathes. It will take time for the scene to recover and get back on its fit, to embrace us with memorable live shows and the ability to watch beloved bands, whether in clubs or out there at the open air festivals. However, the burning mind of the songwriter never rests, always planning, always striving for the best. So did happen with the Greek Silent Winter, making good use of the time given and providing their scene and the world with a shrapnel of strong Heavy Metal in the image of "Empire Of Sins". Steinmetal had the pleasure to talk to Kiriakos Balanos, founder and main songwriter of the band for a chat about the new release, the band bringing on the tradition of Metal in a modern fashion.
Leonid Rubinstein
Servants To The Tide
To follow one's dreams is to follow one's passions, there is no doubt that making that crucial step in making that dream a reality is outstanding, it is an inner fulfillment that is worth more than any million in the bank, to put it mildly. Pay homage in one's own version to beloved idols can be interpreted in many ways, when thought positively, it can be another basis to gain interest, to provide an angle, and this time around in Doom Metal, its epic kind. Servants To The Tide rose on the basis of fandom, and came to be a smooth reality. Steinmetal had a talk with founder Leonid Rubinstein about the hardships of finding the right members, the new album and its vision.
Freddy
Necronomicon
Right after hitting the last chord, there are thoughts about what to do next, however, when life hits, and there is that major effect of being hit hard, at times, it is difficult to get back to business as if nothing happened. It is a process, digestion and understanding, comprehending the situation and trying to live with it. There are those that can and there are those that will decide that enough is enough, a time to move on. Germany's long running Necronomicon, led by Freddy, have seen quite a lot throughout the long span career. Eventually, it was getting back out there with a new album, "The Last Chapter", and who knows if it is the end or not. Steinmetal wanted to find out more by discussing it with Freddy.
Larry Barragan & James Rivera
Helstar
Celebrating the dark creatures of the night, letting the burning sun die down and enjoy the mystery and danger of the twilights. However, nothing is going to be quite, but rather raging, black and ever bludgeoning, like an adrenaline shot to the bloodstream. The US Metal vampire hailing enthusiastics, Helstar, are back and bearing gifts of great fortune. The band is set to release "Clad In Black", sharing new material, a calling card for something bigger, continuing to tease their fans with a fine Heavy Metal appetizer. Steinmetal had a great talk with Larry Barragan (Guitars) and James Rivera (Vocals) about the world of the underworld, not the mafia, the new album, reissuing "Vampiro", tribute to the gods and exports of Metal and more…
Gustavo Acosta
Feanor
There is something that has be out there, important to say out loud, it is hard to keep people stating that an integral factor of Metal music is a cliché. Metal is to be sung about, as more than just a genre of music but as an entity, a spirituality, a form of religion, a place to escape to, to find comfort. Nonetheless, other than being a form of escapism, it shows facts, it tells you what to beware of, to open your eyes and just notice, listen to the sounds. Manowar has, and will always have, an impact on Metal music, the quality of the older albums persists. And there is Feanor, easily could be stated as a straying version of the Americans, and now with David Shankle, they appear somewhat unstoppable. Channeling the spirit of the old in their new "Power Of The Chosen One", a Metalhead cannot deny the heritage of the music and inner force burning inside the flame. Steinmetal had a great conversation with founder Gustavo Acosta, talking about the past, Metal music in his life, Feanor and of course the new album the collaboration with David Shankle.
Sheikh Spitfire
Witchseeker
Out of experience, and knowing bands as such, it is never easy to be a Metal musician in a small country, needless to say a small island. Moreover, it is hard to be on a wave of Metal that the larger part of the Metal scene simply is not on. Call it survival or endurance, it doesn't contribute to motivation that much. But, whoever is up to stand up for it is believed to be good and in quality, why not? Witchseeker, of the island of Singapore, are doing the impossible, a Heavy Metal band within a small extreme Metal driven scene. However, they made it happen and now are releasing their sophomore album, "Scene Of The Wild", through Dying Victims Productions. Steinmetal had a chat with band founder, Sheikh Spitfire, about the nature of the band, being kind of isolated, the new album and more…
Tiziano Sbaragli
Angel Martyr
The never ending battle between good and evil, the forces of light and darkness, sometimes it would look like an actual battle but rather a string of events that would suggest that there is a confrontation but not in bludgeoning battlefield. There are no winners or losers, it is like ying and yang, always there, completing each other in a twisted dance. The Italian Angel Martyr, led by Tiziano Sbaragli, created a small universe of choices, dark thoughts, contemplations and decisions. With the coming new album, "Nothing Louder Than Silence", via Iron Shield Records, darkness and light has a lot to tell. Steinmetal talked to Tiziano about the experience of the record, Traditional Metal, and more…
Albert Batlle
Perennial Isolation
There is no real expression other than being truthful, in particular in music. An artist's creation, at least from this side of the table, is not merely for sale but also to twitch a personal emotion. Whether towards anger, contempt, relaxation or even sharing one's pain and sorrow, it is all there for the taking, understanding and comprehending. The Spanish Atmospheric Black Metal band, Perennial Isolation, has been living and breathing the cold, the Autumn and went through a journey with their new album, "Portraits", observing various of people's images and lives. Steinmetal had a great conversation with the founder, Albert Batlle, about the new album, generated feel, the journey, new label and more…
Mariangela Demurtas
ARDOURS
Mariangela Demurtas
is one of the vocalists of Norwegian Gothic Metal band
TRISTANIA
and the main vocalist of Italian Gothic Metal band
ARDOURS
. With
ARDOURS
,
Mariangela
released full-length album
"Last Place On Earth"
in 2019 and the EP
"Eu4ria"
in 2020 via Frontier Records. Currently she is working on the second album.
Metal Temple
writer
Thomas Kumke
was fortunate to speak with
Mariangela
about the history and conceptual ideas of
ARDOURS
, the song writing in the band and inspirations, living in Norway, and life in a Metal family.
Marcin Puszka & Karol Zmaczyński
Shadow Warrior
SHADOW WARRIOR
broke out on the scene from Poland with the first full-length album
"Cyberblade."
Their debut album blends a lot of interesting concepts, from overpowered 80s rock to a tale about a robot samurai straight out of a
Power Rangers
or
Voltron
episode. Today, they're speaking with
Metal Temple
writer
Rachel Montgomery
to discuss the concept behind their album and what their plans are once they go back on tour.
Magnus Olsfelt
The Crown
Time flies but the music remains brutal, all over the place, moshing as if life is endless without any barriers or borders. So why really stop at no. 10, when only the skies are the limit. The Swedish Death / Thrashers, The Crown, have been on the rise, their previous album, "Cobra Speed Venom", really made an impact so for the no. 10, it was bound to challenge the former with a fierce and bloody release that would champion. It ended up with "Royal Destroyer", receiving the honors. Steinmetal had the chance to talk with the veteran Magnus Olsfelt about the new album, raising up the bar of the musical level, looking a bit to the past and more to the future.
Guy Miller & Srdjan Bilic
Primitai
It is a safe bet to say that there are folks thinking that it is amazing that we, the humans, are still here on the planet, roaming about, not really preserving it as we should. Everything can happen, as it may sound as a cliché, but it let's hope that we will be alright, at least for the next 1,000 years. However, there are those that dream, imagine and think beyond the box. The British Heavy Metallers, Primitai, took a step forward with their music, and their aspirations, and are set to come up with "Violence of the Skies", the future of British Metal. Steinmetal had a chat with the two veterans of the band, Guy Miller & Srdjan Bilic, about the new album, musical direction and more…
Gou Takeuchi
Significant Point
East or West, it doesn't matter, Heavy Metal is for everyone, and being the so called minority in a scene that is somewhat different, and not giving up, is like being a kind of a champion. There have been plenty of cases where it didn't matter, it would have been best just to put an idea aside and let it fade. But, when passion kicks in, nothing can defeat it and it will triumph. The Japanese old school Metalheads, Significant Point, had their goals set in front of them, and they made their first step, signing in Europe and onwards to their debut album, "Into The Storm", where the 80s reign. Steinmetal had a chat with founder Gou Takeuchi about the new album, the European front, influences and passion for the music.
Sam Machin
Arcaeon
ARCAEON
was formed in the UK in 2017. After releasing an EP called
"Balance"
in 2018, they got a new singer and began working on their debut full-length album, titled
"Cascadence." Metal Temple
Editor-In-Chief is always on the hunt for new Progressive music, and he doesn't remember how he came to discover the band, but submitted a review for
"Balance,"
and most recently
"Cascadence."
Now, he has the honor of interviewing guitarist
Sam Machin
in this innovative band in the Technical Metal/Progressive Metalcore genre.
Jesper Gräs
Iotunn
Out in the cosmic, perhaps that stars above have the answers to life's troubles or the constant journey that each man and woman faces throughout their lives. There is something calming about just looking, it may be a brain inspiration or simple yet another method for soul-searching while not being bounded by anything other than a focus. What matters is to have a reach into the vastness, into bright or darkened areas of the mind, to understand, comprehend what yourself is trying to tell you. The Danish Iotunn took such a journey, mystifying and open for every listener. With the debut album, "Access All Worlds, crossing the finish line and landing into Metal Blade Records, there is a lot to hear from Jesper Gräs, who talked to Steinmetal about the fall and rise of the band and its spirituality.
Markus Becker
Septagon
A bright view into one's present and future, a motivational effort to let the person, and the public, know that one persona is hard to be broken, the terminology of "never back down" implies and it can work marvelously other than pictured as cliché. Each human being has the chance, sometime throughout his life, the ability to rise to the challenge, to become better at he or she does and strive for a personal glory. Therefore, live your lives, enjoy yourselves, when possible. The German Thrash / Speed Metal band, Spetagon, has been on the rise, a beast of fury, yet also filled with melodic scents and intelligence. With the release of their brand new, "We Only Die Once", Steinmetal had the pleasure to talk once again with vocalist Markus Becker, about the new album, its meaning, its purpose, the musical export and a lot of interesting stuff.
Robert Van Wart
Attika
At times it has to feel as being out of place, out of sync, yet there is that burning urge to return, hard and mighty, without any concern or regards to what is going on around. It doesn't matter really; it is devotion that talks the talk. We live only once and timing can't be everything, it is either kill or be killed kind of analogy, so don't take this literally. 80's US Metal band Attika ceased to be due to the changing times and being out of what it takes to continue, however, they made it happen for themselves and returned to the 21
st
century to remind everyone that the past is alive. With a new album in the pipeline, "Metal Lands", Steinmetal talked to Robert Van Wart, the band's longtime vocalist, about the return, why it ended earlier, the new album and more…
Guh Lu
Xeper
A fortune out of the first sin in music, in particular through Metal music, it is quite enriching to be engulfed by one's interpretation of images, visions and perhaps mythical events of the past through a blistering kind of blackened mayhem. Taking it bit by bit, and simply out of nowhere, Xeper returns with the source of their newfound power, "Ad Numen Satanae", inspired by Satan and what is referred to as the Luciferian will. Furthermore, the band made another step by signing with Soulseller Records, which is considered the next level in contrast to their past. Steinmetal had the chance to talk to Guh Lu, the mastermind behind Xeper, about the new album, philosophy, how was it was and more…
Sigmund Hansen
Inflabitan
Being one's own boss, the main man on the scene, deciding when is when, the master of the schedule, and of course the master of the material. A project can be put on ice and to be returned to later on, even years. Even though this one man show thingy has been around for decades, it is still amazing how much dedication and effort one has to make to produce a creation. Early 90s Black Metal veteran, Sigmund Hansen, also known by his band name, Inflabitan, returned to the scene to find out that it has gone through changes and for the better. After decades without an album, Hansen finally released a debut, "Intrinsic", via Soulseller Records. Steinmetal wanted to know more about the experience of the record, getting back, coming up with a surprising release and its musical direction.
Colin Parks
Ghosts Of Atlantis
Truth be told, the existence of Atlantis is one of the strongest myths known to man, a civilization that its foundation is based on stories, its ancient legacy is unknown, but apparently many tales were written about it. Its base of location is also a mystery; it could have been right under our noses but we probably wouldn't have noticed it. That is quite something, isn't it? Emerging with his new band, Ghosts Of Atlantis, Colin Parks, also the guitarist of Devilment, made an impact on the Heavy Metal heritage with the debut "3.6.2.4", showing that there is no limit to the wonderful genre of music. Steinmetal had the privilege of speaking to Mr. Parks about the new band, plethora of styles and of course the masterpiece of an album.
Johannes "Jogi" Schurr
Phallax
Sometimes it is putting the truth right between the eyes, it is never easy when the other side knows that shit hit the fan, and it was about time to pay the price. So where is that decency among people? It is there for certain, yet at times it dodges so may bullets that is prefers hiding its shiny head. So what can really put things into order? People understanding the rules perhaps? Act kindly to one another maybe? Only the future has the answers, and yes it is vague. Letting a little bit of humor into the dark equation, Phallax returned after a hiatus, landing "Lex Concordia", and it appears that there is harmony and strong tight Heavy Metal. Steinmetal had a fine chat with Johannes Schurr, the ex-mayor, also known as Jogi, about stuff of socials, the new album, and more stuff, which some of it is rather hilarious
Phil Vanderkill
SERGEANT STEEL
On the heels of the release of their fourth studio album,
"Truck Tales"
,
Metal Temple
writer
Mike McMahan
caught up with vocalist
Phil Vanderkill
of the Austrian Rockers
SERGEANT STEEL
. They talked about the release, the writing process, inspirations and working with some legendary production engineers.
Johan Niemann
Evergrey
A depth looks within one's own hopes and dreams, how brighter would be the next day after a night's sleep? Will it be better than the previous or might hell will break loose in some sort of a personal version? When thinking about it, it is bound to dwell on it for quite a lot. But why let yourself sink in within the vastness of wonder, just listen to a piece of music what reflect that yearning. When it comes to a person's longing to become better, there is Evergrey's new "Escape Of The Phoenix". Steinmetal had the chance to talk to the band's bass player, Johan Niemann, about the reflections of the new record, the course of the music and more…
Aku Kytölä
Coronary
As if the heart was aching for the piece of classic, the old sounds of the heydays that wouldn't let go. Call it being old nowadays, but also call it being young in spirit. Some folks can't let go of those eras of Rock and Metal music that made everything possible for them, to live, to drink, to enjoy life and even withstand the hardships. Coronary's emergence was not by mistake, as if it was demanded to become part of the worldwide Metal scene, and gladly it happened. Releasing their debut, pure a result of 80s passion, "Sinbad" hit. Steinmetal had a good talk with founder Aku Kytölä about this new musical export from the cold Finnish land, and it was quite nostalgic.
Mikaela Attard

"Nocturne In Red"
. Metal Temple writer

was fortunate to speak with
Mikaela Attard
about her career so far, the conceptual ideas of her album, and about music production.
Unknown, Don "The Wizard of" Fortune, John Jesuele & George Dimitri
Timeless Haunt
A little over a month away from
TIMELESS HAUNT'S
second release,
"Dark For Life"
, Mike McMahan caught up with the melodic Pennsylvania powerhouses with questions on the release, the differences between last year's
"Haunted Symphony"
and the songwriting process within the band. Members
George Dmitri
,
John Jesuele
,
Don Fortune
and the vocalist
Unknown
were more than ready to answer.
Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen
Demon Head
Something that would raise a scent, sound and atmosphere of a kind of complexion that has to be followed and listened carefully more than once, a kind of a puzzle in a musical form, a code that has to be broken. Not every musical piece is there to just sit back and enjoy the fun of the sun, or a kind of a lockdown, but actually to raise questions, retrace steps and start again. First time listening to Demon Head, and beginning with their new record, "Viscera", signed to Metal Blade Records, and it can be understood why the interest levels were high up. Steinmetal talked to guitarist, Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen, about the creative end of the record, understanding the musical pieces, and trying to find out more about the band's development
Dani MVN
Injector
Recently,
Metal Temple
writer
Max Elias
was lucky enough to be able to do a remote interview with
INJECTOR
, a fresh new
THRASH METAL
act from Cartagena, Spain. They just put out their third album,
"Hunt of the Rawhead
,
"
not too long ago, and as soon as I listened to it, he loved it.
"Hunt of the Rawhead"
continues the band's tradition of sharp, original riffing and compellingly structured songs, all with the aggression of a band at the start of their career, even on slower songs.
INJECTOR
is
Dani MVN
on vocals and guitar,
J.A. Ayala
on bass,
Dany B.
also on guitar, and new member
Alberto Dannaya
on drums.
Eleni Nota
Nervosa
In 2020, all female Thrash Metal band Nervosa endured the most difficult and also the most exciting year in their career. In April 2020, two of the three members left the band with only founding member
Prika Amaral
remaining. Within four weeks,
Prika
established a new line-up and since then,
NERVOSA
never looked back. With the revamped line-up,
NERVOSA
is going to release their 4
th
studio album
"Perpetual Chaos"
on the 22
nd
of January via Napalm Records. A good reason to speak to
Eleni Nota
who joined Nervosa in May 2020 as their new drummer. Long time fan and
Metal Temple
writer
Thomas Kumke
was fortunate to speak with
Eleni
about her career, her start at Nervosa, and the new album.

Steve Hall
Crystallion
Countless discussions, countless debates, but the solution is actually simple. The past will always come back to kick some ass, and it might well be yours, it would be worth it, in Metal music though. Whether older or younger musicians, there is a kind of great vibes in the older days of the genre, perhaps it is the youthful spirit of beginners, though Metal was already quite grown in the 80s and took a lot of prisoners on the way. However, it felt free and lively without too much sub this and sub that. The Heavy Metallers, Crystallion, made a return to the roots of Metal, with a new lineup and a new album, "Heads Or Tails". Steinmetal spoke with bass player, Steve Hall, about the change in the band, where it is headed and of course the new album.
Peter Schüren
Blind Guardian
Perhaps all Blind Guardian fans have been talking the last few weeks about their latest release: Imaginations From The Other Side (25th Anniversary Edition), which is celebrating of iconic band speed metal album ever. Entire album Imaginations From The Other Side track by track was already live performed with great response during their 2016 tour, at the end of which the band decided to record and filmed gig at the Ruhrpott Metal Meeting (Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen, Germany) on 3 December 2016. What is more that result went so well that band decided to share this record with all of us for the 25th anniversary. Fans around the world can order this one since 11 December 2020.
Some fans either on the spot in Oberhausen or later seeing photos of the show, or now holding the album in hands, was surprised by the guy who stayed on the left side of the stage (look from the auditorium). Questions came to the mind: where is the guest keyboardist Michael Schüren who had been standing for a long time there (since 1997) and who's that new guy? Many fans unknowing the Krefeld's music scene and hold in hands new release were looking at the booklet or to the earbook and a little bit confused have seen the name Schüren, not Michael, but Peter.
If you do not know this guy, I am honored to present here another member of the Schüren's musical family.
Ray Miner, Joe Mills, Jerimy McNeil
DayGlo Mourning
Stoner/Doom trio
DAYGLO MOURNING
are based out of Atlanta, Georgia, US. They formed back in 2017 and released their self-titled debut album one year later. On February 10, 2021 they are due to release their second full-length album,
"Dead Star." Gary Hernandez
, staff writer for
Metal Temple
, caught up with the band to discuss their upcoming album, their evolution, the future as well as the emerging Southern Doom scene and the impact of the Internet on metal.
Rickard Hednar
The Generals
It is rough out there, leaving aside the pandemic, as there will be a new era afterwards, with more than a few shreds of the pre-Covid 19 days. The big question is if it will ever change, the attitude, being human, the effects of modernism and how people interact. It is easy to start going through conspiracies for a dystopian future, yet people would just want to live their lives on their own accord. However, it is good that there will be someone to remind them that the future could be easily black. The Swedish Death Metal unit, The Generals, are back for a major Death Metal onslaught, leaving aside the spirit of Rock. Portraying the glory days of the early 90s, they introduce "To Hell", and it is down and hard. Steinmetal talked to Rickard Hednar about the band's return and the in your face attitude.
Doug Aldrich
The Dead Daisies
On the cusp of the release of "Holy Ground", The Dead Daisies phenomenal new album, Mike McMahan was able to sit down with DAISIES' guitarist (and personal musical favorite), Doug Aldrich, to gain some perspective on the band environment, past endeavors and the uncertain future of touring in the age of Covid-19.
Marta Gabriel
Crystal Viper
It is great to discover something that apparently was always there, at the front center. Perhaps it is the result of way too may selections out there, but no one could be blamed for that as people have more stuff to listen that they will in a lifetime, now that is pure freedom. Anyhow, discovering Crystal Viper, after listening to bits and pieces over the years, was bound to happen probably and that day came with the introduction to the new "The Cult", which is also a new chapter for the band in the French label, Listenable Records. Steinmetal had the pleasure to talk to the leader and founder, Marta Gabriel, about how this album shaped up, concepts, musical direction and more…
Michael Schenker
MSG
The guitar phenomenon Michael Schenker has reformed MSG to celebrate his 50th anniversary. This is perfect timing, ultimately for organizing the resurrection of original members to sing on the track "In Search Of The Peace Of Mind" from Scorpions - Lonesome Crow. He welcomes vocalists Ralph Scheepers, Joe Lynn Turner, & Ronnie Romero, all of whom have an obsession with Michael's talent; who himself does not feel that he would walk on water. After Temple Of Rock, and Fest, his revelation is to create a new Tectonic assault attack on the senses with his superior performance on the upcoming release: Immortal. Michael Francisco spoke to his favorite guitarist about his work with Derek Sherinian, his first Power Ballad with Michael Voss, his inspiration for playing, and what it means knowing that Rock will never die!
