Turmion Kätilöt - Omen X album cover

Acts as OOOMPH!, SLIPKNOT, LINKIN' PARK, RAMMSTEIN and some others helped the aggressive chaos of Industrial Metal become accessible to a broader public. But there are some acts in this specific musical genre that are the embodiment of what music is about: to bring fun and joy into the lives of the fans (to live in this world is truly a stressing thing, you all know). But it's hard to have an act that can beat in this aspect the Finnish Industrial ogres of TURMION KÄTILÖT. And "Omen X", their new album, translates perfectly what 'fun' is on music.

Their musical work is based upon an accessible (yet nasty and aggressive) form of Industrial Metal/Rock, plenty of hooking Disco/Eurodance beats and elements of the 90's (names as HADDAWAY, TECHNOTRONIC, LA BOUCHE, REAL MCCOY, CAPPELLA, MASTERBOY, SCATMAN JOHN, ROSALLA, CORONA left a 'mark' on Metal), but with massive distortions, melodic ambiences (created especially by the excellent work of the keyboards), all with a band that recognizes no boundaries and authorities. Yes, they're here to respect no limit, and to bring you into a massive funny time. What are you waiting for to dive into it?

The production is what can be expected of an Industrial Metal/Rock album: greasy, electronic (but never hardened or artificial), brutal and crude, so it impacts in the ear of the fans as a drilling screwdriver. But the band always works in studio in a form that allows their music to be fully heard. And there are some guests: Daniel Turunen, Jakke Turunen, Janne Tolsa, Linda Turunen, Marianne Juutilainen, Moona Arola, Netta Turunen, Petja Turunen, Saku Solin, and Taru Hynynen, all of them doing backing vocals; and Kim Sainio on the vocals on "Gabriel". And what a lovely and funny artwork was conceived and created by Tuomas Rytkönen.

Mayhem and chaos made music "Omen X" is an album that is impossible to resist. "Totuus" is their battering ram, and it's a massive and accessible song, filled with excellent ambiences of the keyboards and charming nasty vocals (it's impossible to find to its energy). On "Gabriel" the speed decreases, but the elements of Disco Music/Eurodance into a Metal form become evident, once more with excellent keyboards parts. Still accessible, but with some guitars with Hard Rock-like elements, "Vie Se Pois" pulses with life and energy, and what fine combination of brutal and heavy rhythms (conducted by bass guitar and drums) with lovely keyboards parts. And "Pyhä Kolminaisuus" is hypnotic, putting the fans in a trance, with very good set of tempos.

After a short clean chords intro, the maelstromic chaos of "Puoli Valtakuntaa" takes over with brutal and dirty melodies, with those nasty hooks everyone loves. And bringing some 'romantic' feeling inherited of Dance Music of the 90's, "Verestä Sokea" is accessible and catchy, charming and full of very good contrasts on the vocals. "Isä Meidän" again deals with the hooks in the same form of "Totuus", or in other words, hypnotic Industrial tempos and harsh melodies, and with very good guitars and percussions. And "Sormenjälki" follows the same trend, but with a more accessible set of elements and keyboards.

Again dealing with the hypnotic side of Industrial Metal, "Käy Tanssiin" brings some clean Hawaii chords in some moments, but always keeping the 'filthy' and impacting aspect of band's music. And "Kun Kesä Kuoli" is in the same vein (but with some Thrash Metal-like riffs). And "Kuolettavia Vammoja" is a typical filthy and melodic accessible song for Industrial Metal bands, plenty with charming melodies created by the keyboards. It's not time to say if "Omen X" is the band's classic. But one thing can be clear to everyone: this album is one of the finest pieces created by TURMION KÄTILÖT, and one of the best albums of this year!
