Dysnomia - A Queda do Céu album cover

All the bands that exist and record albums from time to time evolve, and it's nothing that no one knows. But even when a Metal genre is eroded due time and use, there are those that refuse to rest in their own 'comfort zones' and challenge their own selves from album to album. And it's the case of DYSNOMIA, Brazilian band from São Carlos (SP) that is releasing their latest album, "A Queda do Céu" (that means 'Fall from the Sky').

After the excellent work shown on "Anagnorisis", and the band becoming a trio, it seems that they mature in a way that keeps the same technical Thrash/Death Metal of the past, but that is allowing some new elements to enter the mix (as clean vocals and some beautiful melodies heard on "A Queda do Céu", the use of pianos and keyboards on "Os Próprios Deuses", and even some traces of native Groove from Brazilian rhythms, melodies and elements from traditional Heavy Metal and Hard Rock can be found ). And maybe it's a consequence of the fascist government of the country to use Portuguese lyrics that are focused on social/political themes (the concept on the album is about necropolitics (a term and concept created by the Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe, and it's used to describe the death politics produced from the relations between colonialism, racism and capitalism, and in other words, a form of politic that produces only death to the most vulnerable). And it's another bull's-eye, because the album is really amazing!

Produced by the band along Gabriel do Vale (who recorded, mixed and mastered the album as well), the sonority searches to be aggressive and with an aggressive impact for the ears, but in a defined way that anyone can understand what's being expressed in the songs. Yes, even with the hardships of the country, things are working in an excellent way. A bit of Gregorian chants introduces the hooking Thrash/Death Metal song called "A Queda do Céu", filled with a massive and aggressive energy, but with a great care in the arrangements, with very good vocals (the use of grunts and screams is excellent, but the clean tunes in the end are amazing). Brutal and oppressive, "Os Próprios Deuses" (translated as 'The Gods Themselves') is filled with many contrasts and melodic parts, some Groove parts and a massive and heavy work from bass guitar and drums.

"Ananke" (a Greek term to express inevitability, compulsion and necessity) is aggressive and with a hooking technical appeal, and full of a modern and fresh energy (that will be one of the best songs for a live show due its hooking energy). And "O Silêncio da Esfinge" ('The Silence of the Sphinx') follows the same tendency, but with some amazing landscaping moments (as during the guitar solo). Breaking the ambience of the album, "Insomnio" is a typical clean song with a melancholic feeling, almost a lament, until it gains aggressiveness near its end, but without destroying the lament feeling of the song. And as a funeral procession, "Memento" focuses on different sets of slow rhythmic conductions, with excellent arrangements on bass guitar and drums, and unexpected keyboards.

"Necropolítica" ('Necropolitics') is a track introduced by dissonant guitars and climatic keyboards arrangements, before exploding in a ferocious Death Metal-like energy, but soon some slow Groove/Thrash Metal elements appears, and once more with excellent guitar riffs. A bit more traditional on Thrash/Death Metal form, "[R]existência" (a pun between 'existence' and 'resistance', words that are similar in Portuguese) shows a modern and aggressive energy flux, always based on a form of music full of hooks, but with some complex arrangements (and what great Jazz-influenced end, with a melodic and great guitar solo)."Entropia" ('entropy') is the final song, based on classical playing on acoustic/clean guitars, an expression of how necropolitic acts: the killing as social entropy grows.

Of course, the band is waiting to be labeled as 'communists', 'reds' (and other terms that aren't as polite as these ones, something used by conservative in their persecutions to those that oppose their blind speech), but the expressive message of "A Queda do Céu" is clear: if things don't change, we'll face our end. DYSNOMIA is a herald of the end of these sad days (so good times are coming this way).
