I Am Alive
All Against
The Portuguese Metal scene has similarities with a great part of scenes of other countries: few bands are out of the underground and can live of their music. Unfortunately, it seems that the eyes of the public are fixed only on greater names (in Brazil, it's far more complex, because a great part of Metalheads need that a Brazilian band must bear success in Europe and the USA to be praised here), and even when a name is excellent, they don't care. It's a pity, because there are excellent names in the Portuguese scene, especially in Thrash Metal. ALL AGAINST is one of them, as can be heard on "I Am Alive".
In a trend similar to those names from West Coast of USA, especially EXODUS and TESTAMENT, they play with the careful use of dynamical arrangements into a chaos of musical thrashing violence. But pay attention that the quintet knows how to use melodic parts too (as can be heard on the guitar solos of "The Hourglass"). Of course, they're not recreating the whole genre with their work, but they're truly doing things with personality and causing a power surge that can't be ignored! They worked with Hugo Andrade from Ultra Sound Studios during August 2020 (in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, what means that things weren't so easy to be done). They tried to create something that could keep the aggressive and nasty, with crude and organic approach, and the final result is truly very good: everything can be heard and understood, with the crude touch coming from the instrumental tunes used. Oh, on "Sociedade Hostil" (that means "Hostile Society"), they have Rui Correia "Fac" as guest.
"Wake Up" is nasty and aggressive, showing very good rhythmic contrasts (bass guitar and drums are doing a good work), mosh-pitting songs can be heard on "Soldiers of Faith" (the thrashing energy of it will cause severe neck aches, and what great guitar riffs) and on "Free in Chains" (very good melodies inherited from traditional Heavy Metal can be heard on this one), the sharp screamed snarls of the vocals on "I Am Alive" (that can remind the tunes used by João Gordo of RATOS DE PORÃO), and "Sociedade Hostil" (a Crossover song, being honest) are the ones for enjoying a heavy and thrashing great time.
If the reader is a Thrash Metal fan, you must hear "I Am Alive" as soon as possible. And ALL AGAINST is another very good name of the Lusitanian Thrash Metal scene.
