In Norway, there's a traditional way into Black Metal: to sound as harsh and crude as you can. The set of features to reach such a goal (that can be called "ugly aesthetics" due Varg Vikernes speech on the documentary "Until the Light Takes Us") is in the Black Metal DNA since then. And those bands who follow the steps of MAYHEM, BURZUM and DARKTHRONE must deal with it in a way. And the quartet ONE TAIL, ONE HEAD, from Trondheim, comes to show that Norwegian Black Metal DNA is on their blood. It's what "Worlds Open, Worlds Collide" is up to.

Brutal, crude and nasty, their musical work is based on an Old School Black Metal trend near of what we can hear on SWOBM bands, but they have a good technical work and some elements from Black Metal from the 80's as well (from names as BATHORY and SARCÓFAGO). It's like we could have a "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" with a bit more eclectic and experimental in many ways. So it means that they use some good and introspective moments as well. And be prepared for the rawness, being filled with an amazing energy and charming parts.

The sound quality of the album, as the review's words show clearly, is that raw and "ugly" one that the ancients from Norwegian Black Metal scene used, only taking the necessary care to sound in a way that everyone can understand. This kind of mixing and effects can't fit in everyone taste, but it's the right one for the band (although they could have made something better). It's crude to have blood spilling on the floor, so be prepared.

The putrid atmosphere of "Arrival, Yet Again" (aggressive and brutal, but with some deeper atmospheric parts), "Worlds Open, Worlds Collide" (a ruthless sound mass with some HELLHAMMER influences on the guitar riffs), the melodic introspective touches on "Stellar Storms", the slow and bitter instrumental song "Sordid Sanctitude" (very good work from bass guitar and drums is presented here), and the long "Summon Surreal Surrender" (that is filled with some different influences that comes from progressive Black Metal in some parts).

The band really has potential, so let's hope that they can evolve a bit more. For now, "Worlds Open, Worlds Collide" is a very good surprise.
