Desolate Pathway - Valley of the King album cover

Moving into the well-known paths of some musical genres can be a dangerous thing. My words warn you all about the need to put your soul on the creation of what you want to play. It demands a lot of efforts to write something new and creative above what is already done, and there are those that will not be able to write their names on the book of the great names. But the quartet DESOLATE PATHWAY, even not bring nothing really new at all on "Valley of the Kings", shows some pretty good ideas.

They are a traditional Doom Metal band. These words are enough for you all to have a clear idea of what they are doing. But they are into something near of the way that CANDLEMASS followed on the 80s (even Simon's voice reminds the tunes that Messiah Marcolin used on the past): heavy and with very good slow tempos, but with charming melodies. But their musical work is not as bitter as those albums from the ancients. It is already a good point.

They produced "Valley of the Kings" on their own, and they did a good work, because the songs are sounding heavy and really clear, with well-defined instrumental tunes that aren't used for many modern bands of the genre (that prefer something raw in BLACK SABBATH's way). But be prepared, because even with a clean sound, this quartet can play as heavy as hell sometimes.

The bitter weight used in the melodies of "The Valley of the King", the charming melodies and vocals of "Desolate Pathway", "Last of my Kind" and its heavy weight outfit (in evidence due the good work of bass guitar and drums), and the excellent harmonies of "Shadow of the Tormentor" (that shows an excellent riffs) are the best moments of the album.

It seems that they have to work a bit more on some aspects of their music, but they're on the right path.
