Amain
Crimfall
The coming of the 90s brought two things in those days: the coming of all Viking, Pagan and Folk elements that were to be used for the next decades. The birth of Pagan Metal, Viking Metal and Folk Metal can't be dated precisely, besides all evidences point to SKYCLAD and BATHORY. Thanks to these pioneers, the genres are strong and still revealing excellent names. The Finnish quintet CRIMFALL is one of them, and let me tell you: the ancients must be proud of them, because "Amain" is an excellent album, indeed.
Their musical work is based on a mix between extreme and melodic forms of Viking/Pagan Metal, with a balance between both sides of their identity. Their use of aggressive voices in duets with choirs and melodic female voices, along with excellent guitar riffs, a thunderous and technical insight used on bass guitar and drums, great orchestrations and everything sounding personal, intense and filled with life. Yes, their work is pretty good.
The production of "Amain" was done in an almost perfect form. The production, mixing and mastering were done in a way that all the band's musical elements are bounded together with the care that everything must be in the right volume, with the right tune, and on the right way. It wasn't an easy task, but they did it!
Musically rich with fine melodies and great harsh moments, with introspective Folk parts in the middle, be prepared to be assaulted by a band with will to conquer. The amazing "The Last of Stands" with its thunderous guitars and excellent vocals, the four parts of "Ten Winters Apart" ("Far from Any Fate", "Ten Winters Apart", "Song of Mourn" and "Sunder the Seventh Seal", each one of them complex and showing great melodies, excellent guitars and being different one from the other, just excepting the concept that unite them), the charming melodies of "It's a Long Road", and "Until Falls the Rain" it's melancholic feeling reinforced by the guitars and fine keyboards parts.
