Once in a while, Extreme Metal bands really can get on our nerves due some nonsense attitudes they take. It even can eclipse these things. This is what the Canadian quintet
NUMENOREAN do, releasing their first album, called "Home." First of all: there's nothing like "Post Black Metal". Isn't this label enough to describe a musical work? Their music is based upon those melancholic musical elements that make their music sound depressive, not aggressive. Ok, it's a valid way to work, and they are really good, using very good musical arrangements. But the main problem is the time for each song: all of them are above seven minutes of duration, so it can be extremely boring to fans that aren't used to such format (the only short song, "Shoreless", is a bit different from the rest of the album). I believe that fans of ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM can like a lot from "Home", but it will be difficult for many Metalheads to swallow it.

The sound quality of the album is good, because in the clean and depressive moments, you can understand the band clearly. On the harsh and brutal ones, even being a bit noisy than recommended, it works in a good way, and all the instruments and vocals elements can be heard in a good way. The album is good, but let's be honest: to use one or another longer song is a fine idea, but must all of them really be in such a way?  It really seems that they need some musical maturing. "Home" fuses the depressive melodies with the harsh aggressiveness of Black Metal, using good vocals and guitars, and very good tempos as well, the same features we find on "Thirst" (it's a bit more aggressive, but with good bass and drums works). The different "Shoreless" is just a fine depressive instrumental, as "Devour" is their longest song, filled with a sad and somber melodic atmosphere (the contrast between the aggressive moment with the introspective ones is perfect) , the same one you'll find in a different way on "Laid Down" (a very good technique fills the works from guitars once more). The only thing that really is annoying is the long duration of the songs. Working better the songs in a way that they can be shorter, and a cover with a better art (sorry, but dark mood has limits), they'll be fine. But "Home" is a good album.
