New Atlantis
Shattered
Melodic/Technical Death Metal was a style that was born on the 90s. But since then, it evolved more and more, and from time to time, the mutations it assembled all these years finds a way to something astonishing, and breeds excellent bands as the German quartet SHATTERED, from Würzburg, that comes now with this killing album, "New Atlantis".
On their album, we can say that the band has a mature work, using and abusing from all aspects of Technical and Melodic Death Metal at the same time, but of course with some moments of extreme ways (some grunts are piggish a lot), but their music is far beyond any description. It's an experience of hearing and loving from the beginning to the very end. Mixing very good vocals (as I said above, using some piggish grunts, a lot from guttural and even some high pitch screams), very fine and melodic guitar work (yes, very technical and melodic, but catching and heavy as well, with solid riffs and very good solos), precious keyboards interventions, and a great and fine rhythmic basis created by bass and drums. And of course, to be a cherry on this delicious cake, the crowning of it is their personality.
The sound quality is almost perfect. It means that the band had a fine work on the album's production. It is as heavy as clean at the same time, turning the experience of hear this album something extremely good to our ears.
There are 13 songs, all of them with an extreme high level of quality. So we can point as their best moments the strong and heavy "Bipolar Disorder" (what a guitar work!), the abrasive "Ignite the Dawnshard" (again with perfect guitars, but having great vocals as well), the fast and melodic "Despise the Living" (bass and drums creating a heavy and intense basis, with technique and good taste), "The Fall of Hyperion" (this one a bit more aggressive than the previous ones, but without losing the technical insight, and the guitar riffs are incredible fine here), the beautiful instrumental called "Trapped in Everlasting Dreams" (what fine keyboards and guitars, with some pretty clean moments, and with bass and drums again showing a lot their technique), and the last nail in the casket (the last song of the album) called "Amnesia".
After hearing this album, we can affirm that these guys have guts, and are ready for action!
