Screams from the Catacombs
Cemetery Filth
Since the canonization of Death Metal in the end of the 80's and beginning of the 90's (canonization, not creation, please), many great bands arose from the chaotic mass. From Florida (USA), Stockholm (Sweden) and from other different cities and countries, many remarkable names arose, as MORBID ANGEL, DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, GRAVE, PUNGENT STENCH, DEICIDE, OBITUARY, AUSTOPSY, CARCASS, PESTILENCE, and so on. And this generation really marked many fans around the world, creating a fascination for that time and way to make music. But unfortunately, some bands needs to learn the most important thing about making music: you can, of course, do it in the same trend of the past, but you'll need to put your personality on it. And the North American quartet CEMETERY FILTH has to learn more how to put their face in their work, for "Screams from the Catacombs".
Again the same thing I say sometimes: the band is not bad at all, but the reference to Old School Death Metal here is too great to the point we all could think we're hearing some band from the 90's, like GRAVE or DISMEMBER. Their work really lacks of personality.
The sound quality is raw, the same one bands from 90's used to have in their classics, and that's not the worst thing on the EP.
When you hear "Screams from the Catacombs", "Gateway Among the Graves" and "Cemetery Filth", for sure you'll get the same idea as I got: they are talented guys, but needs desperately to find their own way of creating their music.
Can be better, of course, but by now, this EP is a sample of how to not do music you love.
