You Are Safe From God Here

The Acacia Strain

“You Are Safe From God Here” is over 38 minutes of panzer-like tank-worthy deafening and explosively deadly Deathcore. Because if one thing becomes clear, it is that the band have only gotten Heavier, a lot more menacing and almost lethal in their approach to how they write and play songs. There is only one way to go; to be as destructive and devastating as is humanly possible.

After some 24 years of making Deathcore, this will be only my second attempt at reviewing an album by THE ACACIA STRAIN. It isn't that I haven't heard their material all through the years, but it will be only the second time that I have to delve a bit deeper, in order to try and write down something sensible. "3750" is the 2004 album that I reviewed the first time around. My view in 2004 was that "ThirtySevenFifty" (as it was marked as)  was a good starting point to get to know THE ACACIA STRAIN. The only thing that wasn't mentioned in those days was the musical genre of Deathcore, as things like Metalcore and that one were rather new, and not yet classified as such.

Now we hare here, another 21 years later, and I have been given the possibility to give my view on the thirteenth studio album of THE ACACIA STRAIN. "You Are Safe From God Here" is over 38 minutes of panzer-like tank-worthy deafening and explosively deadly Deathcore. Because if one thing becomes clear, it is that the band have only gotten Heavier, a lot more menacing and almost lethal in their approach to how they write and play songs. There is only one way to go; to be as destructive and devastating as is humanly possible. THE ACACIA STRAIN doesn't leave any room for a let-down, for you to have a breather. Which means no respite, no pause, no rest for the wicked. And that can be absolutely perfect for the real fans of the band and Deathcore, but it also can become too much for some. For those who experience that "You Are Safe From God Here" will feel like they are being shot at by a firing squad, they just feel the barrage of hits to the body.

For those of you reading this who love the Extreme nature of THE ACACIA STRAIN on "You Are Safe From God Here", you will undoubtedly revel in the claustrophobic vibe and oppressive feelings that arise while listening. I can just about take it, but only once in a while and only one listening session at a time. If listen more often, my heartrate increases, I become anxious and I get really restless. But what's more, I'm not experiencing the pleasure I was hoping for. The songs feel like soundscapes to me rather than well-structured pieces of music. And I don't believe for one minute that that is what THE ACACIA STRAIN is going for on "You Are Safe From God Here".
