Powerstrike

Sinner Rage

This Spanish NWOTHM quintet is really impressive!

Old School and Modern tendencies in metal can live without problems, and it’s a matter of respect between fans and bands. You can like both ways without problems, or one of them (but again: respect the other people with different opinions), and there’s no need to say that one is better than the other. Using the older ways is the Spanish quintet SINNER RAGE, here coming with its first full-length, “Powerstrike”. If you thought about NWOBHM, you hit the target! It’s what the band is up to, using the heavy weight and melodic sense of those days with a very good technical appeal and with touches of Hard Rock of the 70s (pay attention to the backing vocals to hear such thing). The formula is old, but who cares as music is good? And the quintet’s music is excellent, even with some maturing being expected from them in the future.

The quintet had the hands of Javier Félez (owner of Moontower Studios and with a huge list of bands that worked with him on studio) on the recording sessions, mixing and mastering. It seems that the quintet’s idea was to have something with an organic appeal as the early releases of NWOBHM, but with a good definition. Such a balance was reached in a good way, but the band’s musical deserves more. Storming with energy, the quintet’s shows potential and talent to become a leading force on Old School Heavy Metal trench, using and abusive of the cliches of the genre to breed excellent songs as “Powerstrike” (with VU meter exploding with such energy, the NWOBHM is a clear reference, with very good tempos from bass guitar and drums, and charming chorus), “Silent Thunder” (wow, what lovely energetic approach on the melodies), “Highway Knights”, “Chained by Night” (charming contrasts between introspective parts with heavier moments on the chorus, with excellent guitars), “Fire’s On” (some touches of old MOTÖRHEAD can be heard on the melodies, and what good vocals and backing vocals), “Angel of Combustion”, “Call of the Wind” (weighty melodies, indeed) and “Dangerous Attraction”. What? Just 8 songs? Hey, we want more!

Yes, after listening to “Powerstrike”, you’ll be asking for more. And SINNER RAGE can become the new titanic name on NWOTHM. Listen and you’ll understand these words!
